Fishing
remains excellent at many Mexican lakes and
one lake stands out as simply spectacular!
We look for another outstanding season at
Lake Baccarac over on the west coast.
With the Lake management team that has been
formed and in place, along with full
cooperation from all parties involved in the
day to day activities around the lake, to
include local co-ops, local village mayors
and council members along with State
and Federal input, this lake is destined to
continue cranking out the world's best
trophy bass angling for the foreseeable
future with a larger population of truly
giant bass increasing at an ever
accelerating pace from year to year!
Certainly, the daily fishing reports from
customers tell the complete story about Lake
Baccarac and quite simply, it is the best in
the world today for trophy bass!
On other
subjects of importance; there have been
several recent changes in laws and rules
that will affect all drive-in customers
bringing their own boats into Mexico.
For one thing, the Mexican Government no
longer recognizes any type vehicle-boat
Insurance that is not written and provided
by an Mexican Insurance Company. In
other words, if your American Policy has a
clause which states that you are covered a
certain number of miles-kilometers along the
Mexican Boarder; this clause is null and
void and is no longer valid if you are
involved in an auto accident while driving
in Mexico. So, take this advise
seriously; you need Mexican Insurance when
driving in Mexico. All auto accidents
are treated as Criminal Offenses and most
times all vehicles are impounded and under
certain circumstances, all parties involved
can be placed in jail. This is where
good insurance that is backed by a highly
rated Mexican company is invaluable as
attorneys, bail bondsmen and by-lingual
employees are always provided to assist you.
I have addressed this issue in more detail
at the following link on my website:
http://www.mexicanlakes.com/Htm%20Folder/Visiting_Mexico.htm
The Mexican
Government has also recently raised the
prices for all Fishing and Boating Permits.
It is a rather modest increase, however, you
will note that the price for your permits is
more costly the next time you have to
purchase new ones. Remember, boating
permits are only issued for a one year
period, but fishing permits can be purchased
for one week, one month or one year.
It has also
recently come to my attention from the
director of Conapesca that there has been an
increase in altered Permits with date
changes and etc being noted by inspectors.
If one is checked while on the water and
found to have an altered permit, this is
considered a very serious offense and you
could loose all your equipment to include
your boat and incur a large fine as will.
So, don't even think about making a change
to your permit! It's not worth taking
the risk and the Government is hiring more
personnel each year to spend time on the
water making certain that current, valid
documentation is in possession. All
Mexican Permits come pre-stamped from the
Government and it is very easy for them to
note any changes or alterations. So,
for the few dollars involved, don't even
think about making a change to your permits;
it's just not worth taking the chance!
One other
little known very important point about
Mexican Fishing Permits is that all persons
in your boat, whether fishing or not must
have a valid fishing permit in their
possession. Yes I know, but it's their
country and one must abide by their rules
and regulations.
I just
received a rather disturbing report from a
customer about Lake Cuchillo, located in the
State of Nuevo Leon just outside the town of
China which many of you have fished in years
past. It was reported to me that much
of the lakes population of Tilapia were
swimming up on the shorelines around the
lake and actually dying. Apparently Tilapia
were the only species of fish involved and
there were no bass involved in this very
unusual occurence. At first thought one
might not consider this to be much of an
issue as far as the bass population is
concerned, but of course Tilapia are one of
the main forage species at Cuchillo, at
least when they are small enough for the
smaller bass to forage on after a spawn and
Tilapia are very prolific spawners with
several yearly spawns and this is a serious
loss for the bass population at Cuchillo
which was already suffering from a shortage
of suitable forage. After discussing this
unusual occurence with several of the top
fishery biologists around the USA it was
determined that more than likely this
species of Tilapia had become infected with
some type of bacterial or viral outbreak
caused by a water born algae bloom of some
type. This is a tremendous loss for lake
Cuchillo and it just might be one of the
many contributing factors to the slow
decline in bass angling success that has
been noted in the past several years.
As I have
previously noted, I am not recommending Lake
Cuchillo as a destination in Mexico for this
season or until we see a significant
increase in the quality of angling success.
I do however look for the angling to improve
at Cuchillo and I will be among the first to
let you know when I feel Cuchillo once again
meets my criteria for bass angling in
Mexico.

Can you believe
that another Thanksgiving Holiday has come and gone?
This was an especially meaningful Thanksgiving for
me personally, as I had a very delicate eye
operation early Wednesday morning which was 100%
successful and I have full and complete vision in my
right eye once again! I am actually typing
this blog without wearing glasses for the very first
time since I put this site together! Can you
top that for having a valid reason for giving
THANKS? I would like to express "Kudos" to all
the myriad of doctors-nurses that were involved and
especially a BIG "Thank
You" to my good friend "Lucky P" for his time and
effort in helping to make this all possible!
Fishing remains good to excellent at many Mexican
Lakes; but this is the time of the year when a cold
weather change can blow though the area at any time
and make the angling a little tough with strong
north winds and bass that have moved tight to cover.
Actually, I have always maintained that a cold front
is much harder on the anglers than on the bass and
good fishing is still possible if one can adapt to
these type conditions with different ways of
enticing old jaws to eat just one more meal!
With the new more powerful electric trolling motors,
this has helped save many a day on the water while
fishing in high wind conditions and of course, the
"Old Fashioned Anchor" is still a good way to stay
on the fish and the use of a good wind sock can also
provide more boat control. One things for
certain, the bass you caught at a location the day
before a cold front blows through aren't going to
move far.
I have added a new page to my website in the past
few days, as I was doing a little research on when
and if there is an equivalent Thanksgiving Holiday
such as the one we celebrate here in America in
November and Canada in October. Much to my
surprise, I found that Mexico does not have an
official day of celebrating "Thanksgiving!"
So, after a little more research I compiled a list
of Mexico's most important Holidays! Listed
below is the new link I have added to my website and
you can also find it on the left shared border links
list:
http://www.mexicanlakes.com/Mexican_Holidays.htm
The Mexican people
have many Celebrations-Carnavals-Holidays during the
course of each year and I think you'll find this
page very informative and interesting and you could
even plan a fishing trip to include participating in
one of these Holidays also. The Carnaval
celebration is an especially festive affair and is
recognized as an official Mexican Holiday which
takes place in February each year. The dates
for Carnaval in 2008 are February 15-20 and Port
cities such as Mazatlan, La Paz and Veracruz are
especially excellent places to watch Carnaval
festivities.
The latest word
on the completion date for five new rooms at Lake
Baccarac Lodge is February 28th. Hopefully this is
an accurate estimation and when these five new rooms
become available, we will be able to accommodate 10
more anglers at the Lodge for a total of 42 plus
space for pilots and non-fisher persons. We
are not booking these rooms until they actually
become 100% completed, so call or e-mail me every so
often as we get closer to the February time frame
and you might just get lucky and actually be able to
get a booking in the March-June time frame at Lake
Baccarac.
We have the
absolute best turn-key Bass Angling Package
available in all of Mexico with Professional Air
Charter Service to both Lakes Baccarac and Huites.
The airstrips are both located within minutes of
either lodge and we fly Cessna Caravans from the
Phoenix area and Cessna Twin 414's from the El Paso
area. It is only a three hour flight to either
lake which includes landing in Chihuahua to clear
customs. This is one of the most spectacular
flights in the entire world as much of the route is
flown over the Copper Canyon area; Mexico's
equivalent to our Grand Canyon! Of course,
private pilots can easily make this trip in their
own aircraft and we have complete flight plan
information. Both of these strips are
registered as official landing sites with the
Mexican Government so a flight plan can be filed to
either location. There is 24/7 security
provided by the Mexican Government and both paved
strips are well maintained. If for some reason
one could not land at either strip, it is only a few
more minutes flight time to the port city of Los
Mochis which has an International Airport with all
weather instrument approach capabilities.
One lake that
has been a complete surprise so far this season is
Lake Huites, located some 70 air miles north of
Baccarac. The fishing has been outstanding
with huge numbers and quality bass being caught
daily. Most boats are averaging well over 150
bass per day (mostly top-water action) with a good
many of these bass in the 4-8 pound size range with
an occasional bass over 10 pounds. We look for
Huites to produce the best angling in all of Mexico
over the course of the next few years. Not
only is Huites a great producer, it is one of the
most spectacular and scenic Lakes in all of Mexico!
We hope to see you soon at beautiful Lake Huites!
I guarantee you'll not be disappointed with this
choice of a Mexican Lake to spend a few days
testing your piscatorial skills!
We pride ourselves in offering the finest package
trips in Mexico; to include
GUIDES that are absolutely the
best in the entire country!
So, okay enough
already, you can tell that I am more than
enthusiastic about Lakes Huites and Baccarac and
besides, my stomach is telling me that a turkey
breast sandwich with all the trimmings would sure
taste good about now; so until next time, here's
hoping each of you had a great Thanksgiving and have
a good weekend sharing with family and friends and
get to spend some time on your favorite water!

First, let me
apologize for all the down time the past several days I have
experienced with my website and the site not being available for
access from time to time. This past few days I have been
in the process of changing web hosting servers and for those of
you that have never had the experience of "PERSONALLY" designing
and maintaining a modern website with current, up-to-date
information; you can take it from an old pro that some days it
can be a very time consuming and frustrating experience; to say
the least. And for those few of you that have this vast
amount of knowledge and expertise to do so, you know exactly what I mean!
From broken Front Page Extensions to hyperlinks that suddenly
point to the wrong files or incorrect IP addresses and user
name-password issues; this can be a very trying experience for
even the most seasoned pro, especially when one has a myriad of
other obligations and responsibilities that must be met and
provided on any given day of the month!
I would like to
send Kudos to the very "special" team of tech reps at "Go Daddy.com"
for their patience and expertise. I can honestly say that
each and every one of them I talked with about a myriad of
issues that were encountered with this transition gave 110%
effort in trying to resolve the
issues that were encountered! I highly recommend Go Daddy
for any of your Internet Service requirements! They can be
reached at 480-505-8877; 24/7, including Holidays and or
via the internet at
godaddy.com. This is a "First Class," made in "America"
Corporation that is actually headquartered in Scottsdale,
Arizona and staffed by real Americans that speak real English
and there is no "Out Sourcing" to some third world country of
any kind!
But to finish
the story, finally after many long hours and more than just a
little frustration, overtime and hard work the transition is
just about completed and hopefully I'll be able to provide much
better and more current information to you my valued customers
in a more timely fashion!
On a more
important subject, the angling at both Baccarac and Huites
remains absolutely phenomenal and I encourage any of you that
want to fish either of these two fantastic Mexican fisheries to
get your reservations taken care of ASAP> We are very limited in
our ability to book more customers for this season with a few
dates still open and we are offering charter Air Service to
either lake with our airstrips located within minutes of either
Lodge.

This Huites
Report just received from Mike Price:
[priceman1744@sbcglobal.net]
Pitch,
This was my 6th time to
fish Lake Huites. Outstanding numbers this trip with some
very nice fish. I feel like the lake is on a major up cycle.
I look for some very nice size to come from the Lake very
soon. Everywhere we stopped you would find bass, everywhere.
The bigger fish came from the long points and small coves
near the Dam. Almost any lures would work. Pretty simple
right now, get your hook in the water! The last four trips
we fished out of Lake Huites Lodge which I highly recommend
truly a 5 star operation with people that really care about
your trip.
Hope this helps>MP

U.S. Passport Services
Back to Standard Processing Time
The Department has restored passport
service to the standard six to eight week processing
time for routine passport applications, and no more than
three weeks for expedited service.
To date, we have issued over 16
million passports in fiscal year 2007, which ends on
September 30, compared to 12.1 million issued in fiscal
year 2006. Throughout the summer, dedicated Department
staff in Washington and at the nation's 18 passport
agencies have worked tirelessly to eliminate the delays
in processing that had developed earlier in the year.
The Department plans to expand
passport facilities and continue to hire more passport
specialists in order to increase production capacity and
meet rising passport demand expected in coming years, as
passport requirements are extended to land and sea
borders. By January 2008, we will have hired hundreds of
new employees, and production capacity at the National
Passport Center in New Hampshire, the largest passport
facility, will have doubled. Longer-term expansion plans
include new passport facilities strategically located to
enhance customer service around the country.

I generally try
and take a day off on Sunday's but things have been so hectic
around here trying to keep up with all the myriad of phone
calls, e-mails and other business that I thought I'd put in a
few hours and try to get caught up a little today.
I know all of you guys and gals have heard the old saying "That
when it rains it pours!" Well let me tell you, I 'm
talking about bass literally 'Pouring" over the sides of all our
guide boats at both Lakes Baccarac and Huites. I have
never seen anything like this in over 40 years of bass angling
down South of the border and I'm talking about literally 1,000's
of bass over 7 pounds being caught and released at these two
lakes in just the past 30 days! With 100's of bass over 10
pounds being caught in just the past 30 days!
Lake Huites has
been one of the biggest surprises of the season so far, as it
has literally "EXPLODED" WITH NUMBERS AND SIZE BASS being
caught on a daily basis.
We are now
offering direct charter flights to both lakes from several
points in USA with paved, well maintained airstrips located
within minutes of both Lodges at either lake. Both strips
are capable of handling single and twin engine aircraft to
include many Jet Aircraft. 24/7 security is provided at
both strips and flying directly to the lake opens up a whole new
level of excellence and convenience in our "Full Service
Packages!"
I would be glad
to send anyone references and customer names and phone numbers
who have recently experienced the phenomenal angling and service
at these two west coast lakes. You know it's as good as it
gets when customers are booking another trip for the following
year before they even depart the Lodge on their current trip!!!
This is a once
in a lifetime bass angling opportunity folks and if you can
afford the time; I would highly recommend that you fish both
lakes during the same trip with our new
"DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE" all
inclusive package that includes 3 days of angling at both lakes.
It is less than 70 miles by air between these two fantastic
Mexican Fisheries; so this means that you can be on the water
within an hour flying from either lake. I am very excited
about this new package and service and know that it will be well
received by all customers that can take advantage of this great
new
"One of a Kind"
Mexican fishing adventure.
Please call me
toll free for pricing and availability; as this new package plan will be on a very limited basis for this season.
Five new rooms
are presently being constructed at the Lake Baccarac Lodge and
hopefully we look for completion within the next several months
and this will be of tremendous help in taking care of you our
valuable customers.
Come join us
South of the border! Cold, miserable weather is fast approaching
for much of the USA and the weather at both of these lakes is
generally very pleasant throughout the entire winter season. We
look forward to seeing each of you soon and adding your picture
to our "Walls of Fame!"

Can you believe
that we are already coming up to the prime fishing times at most
Mexican Lakes. Lots of folks just like to get away for a
few days from all the cold weather that many of us have to
contend with during the winter months.
Most Lodges
will be open and offering Full service from this month trough
May or June and even into July, depending on the lake location
and local prevailing conditions.
After more than
40 years of bass fishing in Mexico I have personally found the
angling to be "PRIME"
and at its very best for size and numbers of bass during the
months of May through mid July at many Mexican Lakes.
There are a myriad of reasons for this and of course this
scenario will change from lake to lake based on prevailing lake
conditions during any yearly period to include lake elevations.
However, the myth about the weather being too warm and the bass
having lock-jaw down south of the border during these time
frames is slowly being accepted as totally false and that this
line of reasoning is a total myth! When one reads some of
the incredible lake reports from this past May-June-July and
August at many Mexican Lakes it is very clear to see this is
certainly a "PRIME TIME" to
get away for a few days catchin!
I presently
have availability at several West Coast lakes that are producing
incredible angling! Give me a call anytime toll free for
