MEXICAN LAKE UPDATES
December 26, 2006 Sugar Lake Hog
15+ Pounds October 31, 2006 October 26, 2006 WEST COAST MEXICAN LAKES Many lakes in the State of Sinaloa expect substantial flooding run-off from Tropical Storm Paul that pushed ashore early yesterday and this morning. Another new Tropical Depression is forming along the southern Mexican Coast and is expected to bring even more flooding rains to that region of Mexico. October 15, 2006 IN PRAISE OF "OLDER" MEXICAN LAKES! As many of you know; that have been chasing bass in Mexico for any length of time, their lakes tend to have very dramatic cyclic periods and produce excellent angling for a period of time and then seem to go through periods of decline with very poor angling and catch success ratios in relationship to actual time spent on the water. No where on earth is this more prevalent than in Old Mexico. There are many reasons for this up and down ebb and flow at most Mexican Lakes, but one of the main contributing factors in this phenomenon are the massive changes in lake elevations at most Mexican Lakes. Almost all Mexican Lakes were and still are first and foremost constructed for use in irrigating vast amounts of farm land and for generating and supplying electricity for the surrounding countryside. Recreational use is almost never given any consideration and therefore bass angling is mostly a by product of these man made impoundments. One such older Mexican Lake that has made a dynamic cycle back to excellent angling is Presa El Azucar (Sugar Lake, Tamaulipas). This is one of the oldest lakes in all of Mexico with dam completion back in the early 40's! The lake has gone through many up-down cycles, to include some of the finest bass fishing found in the world and guess what? Sugar Lake is back in all it's glory and then some! With the completion of the EL Cuchillo Dam upstream in 1994 on the same river, this has helped to keep Sugar Lake from being drawn down to such low levels so as to stress the bass and creating massive fish kills. Another added bonus is that Cuchillo was stocked with Florida Genetics and many of these bass have been released from Cuchillo and found their way into this beautiful older Mexican Lake. With very little fishing pressure for the past 12 years the bass population at Sugar has exploded and with a very prolific forage base there is now and extremely large abundance of trophy bass just waiting for all eager Gringo Anglers! Another added bonus is the fact that Sugar Lake is so close to the US border (30 minute drive) that in fact, no Mexican Visa is even required to cross into Mexico to fish this wonderful older Mexican Lake. If you would like to experience this great older Mexican Lake before the word really gets around, please call me today for more information and your reservations! We offer some of Mexico's finest guides and equipment that really know how to show you the trip of a lifetime! Call me today and experience the real difference!

September 21, 2006 We look for Baccarac to offer outstanding angling this season over on the West coast and on the East coast, we look for older Sugar Lake to produce fantastic action. I just talked with the savvy pro, Fred Wells yesterday who had just returned from a 4 day trip to Sugar and he reports one of the best bass angling trips he has ever experienced in his 40 + years of "bassin" in Mexico, averaging up to 100 bass per day with lots of trophy action.....
We also look for Guerrero to produce first class action this next
season, as this older favorite Mexican Lake has made a nice cycle back.
800-353-8901 Jesus "Chuy" Morales from Monterrey, Mexico has been recently selected as the Mexican Team leader for an International Bass Angling Tournament in Portugal. Many of you know Chuy as one of the top bass anglers in all Mexico. This event will be conducted at the newly completed "largest" man made reservoir in Europe, Presa Alqueva, located near Alentejo, Portugal. Check the link below for more information about bass angling in Portugal. Yes, bass angling has become a world class sport with many countries represented at this second annual Portuguese tournament. http://www.alqueva.de/alquevaengl.html August 8, 2006 Man, what a "HOT SUMMER" in the mid section of the US of A, with records broken on a daily basis.....Actually, it's been much hotter in Oklahoma and Northern Texas than all of Northern Mexico, but the good news is that it's not too late for making a great trip to Northern Mexico! Check this report about how HOT the "SUMMER TIME FISHING " really is in Northern Mexico! June 5, 2006 Chuy Morales, Monterrey, Mexico reports fishing at Cuchillo still remains excellent with good numbers of bass being caught on a variety of lures. Now would be a great time to take the entire family down for a few days on the water. Water sports equipment rentals are available for those non fishermen in your group and sight seeing trips to the Monterrey-Saltillo area are also available. May 16, 2006

April 7, 2006 Milo Hodges and friends from the Clovis, California area just returned from another great trip to Lake Cuchillo with lots of action, camaraderie and quality bass up to 9 pounds being caught. The Bill Smith group from the Houston< Texas area also had another good trip to El Cuchillo with good numbers of bass. It seems that the bigger bass were harder to find but they managed to boat a nice 7 pound bass as big fish for the trip. A delayed report from Dan Hayes, Claremore, Oklahoma and Dan reports a fantastic trip earlier this spring with bass up to 11+ and several 100+ days on the water. This is Dan's personal best bass and he has already booked next years return trip. April 5, 2006 I just returned from a quick trip to Cuchillo and Sugar lake in Northern Mexico and was fortunate enough to be able to bring my brother, Dr. Pat Pitchford from Clarksville, Tennessee along on this trip and we had another "Once in a lifetime adventure!" We found both lakes producing excellent angling and Pat had the big bass for both Sugar and El Cuchillo with a nice 10# plus beauty at El Cuchillo Sunday morning. Cuchillo has been drawn down approximately 10 feet over the past month and the bass are migrating out to the best points, ledges and ridges or suspending in the deeper water cover and are very easy to pattern at this time. We had our best success on plastic and crank baits with good numbers of bass caught each day. Brother Pat is recuperating from "heart transplant" surgery and he laments that there is nothing like a 10 pound bass to help have a successful "change of heart...." Many Gringo anglers are not aware of how good the post spawn angling is in Mexico as the next several months offer some of the best angling of the entire year. I will be offering trips to Cuchillo, Sugar and Blancas this summer and next season. Give me a call anytime for more information. 800-353-8901
March 23, 2006 John Butler and group from Joplin, Mo. just returned from a good trip to Lake Cuchillo. John reports lots of action with several days of 100+ bass per boat. Big bass was a respectable 9 pound chunk with many 2-4 pound bass each day! John and crew stayed up river at the new Cabanas del Mirador and he reports this is an excellent facility with good concrete launch ramp. The lake has been lowered back down to pool elevation and I look for the angling to continue excellent through April-May. Cuchillo is an easy destination for drive-ins with several locations catering to the drive-in customer. Call me anytime for more information. March 15, 2006 Here's a great report from Lake Cuchillo:
Harry, thought I would drop you a line and a couple of pictures
about our trip to Cuchillo March 3rd though the 9th, we ( Joe and
Jan Ward, and Harold Leep and D.C.Smith) had the best trip we have
had ever, the lake seems to get better each year, both boats caught
over 100 bass a day for 5 days with. We all had a great time, and
can't wait for the next trip, if you enjoy catching fish, I can't
think of a better place to do it than Cuchillo. Jan Ward caught a
9lb 3oz fish, beating her husband Joe by a pound with his 8lb fish
(2 of them) Harold Leep caught the biggest fish 9lb 14oz, and I
brought up the rear with 7lb 14oz, and two many 5lb and 6lb to
count.
We went to the motel every night with the fish still biting, we
would just get to tired to reel in another one!!
I will send you Joe and Jan's pictures when I get them.
March 7, 2006 Lots of good fishing news from all over Mexico. I have had numerous calls and e-mails from anglers that have recently spent time on Lake Cuchillo with reports of many trophy bass being caught. Jimmy Bowels and son from Muskogee, Oklahoma had a great trip with a nice 12.9 and 10.7 taking top bass honors. Jimmy reports they also had numerous bass in the 7-9 pound class with several bigger bass that they just couldn't manage to get in the boat. John Butler, Joplin, Mo. and his group of 8 anglers are on the lake for 9 whole days right now and I have been told they are really on some nice bass. I'll have a complete report on this group in a few more days. But, they always catch some giant stringers of fish at Cuchillo. Lowell Crowl and his wife had a "great trip>" with Lowell reporting his best ever bass angling trip and catching his personal best bass of a lifetime with Cuchillo's top guide Chuy Morales. Jim Flynn, Oklahoma City and his group of 20 anglers had another great Mexican Adventure the end of February and they are already planning next years return trip to Cuchillo. Top bass for the group was a nice 10.7 caught on the last day with 2nd place honors weighing in at 10.3. Al Thurman, Checotah, Oklahoma reports another good trip and in fact, Al is making his second trip of the month back to El Cuchillo so he can spend more time on the water. Fred Wells and friends reports another good trip to Cuchillo. Fred reports lots of action with big bass weighing in at 7 pounds. Give me a call anytime for more info and booking your trip to Lake Cuchillo. 800-353-8901 February 10, 2006 The Ken Hathcock group from the Sapulpa, Oklahoma area reports another great trip to Lake Cuchillo with lots of quality action using their favorite plastic baits. We look for the weather to start warming with the longer days, which will in turn move the bass population from pre stage to staging areas for the next several weeks. If you are fortunate enough to be on the water at Cuchillo under just the right conditions in the next several weeks, non-stop quality bass action can be expected.
February 6, 2006 Good reports are coming in from Lake Cuchillo; with some nice size bass being reported. We look for the next several months to produce some great Trophy angling. I have a few spots still available. Call today for information. 800-353-8901
January 29, 2006 Mike Higgins and his fishing buddy Joe Erwin from the Tulsa, Oklahoma area just returned from a good trip to Cuchillo. It seems that Joe worked some serious "magic action" with his big "Spook" and the Cuchillo bass population responded favorably with lots of top water and buzz bait action. We look for a steady improvement of angling with lots of trophy action the next few months as the water temperatures continue to warm and the bass population goes from staging to full spawn mode. If you would like to experience one of the best Mexican Adventures available, give me a call for details and pricing. 800-353-8901
January 21, 2006 Here's a great report. Fred Malone from Bartlesville, Oklahoma just returned from several days on Cuchillo and man was he ever excited about the great angling he experienced! Fred pulled his own bass boat for the first time this trip and he tells me they had several days with well over a 100 bass caught and released; with some nice quality bass up to 8 pounds. Fred is so impressed with the potential at El Cuchillo he purchased one of the new 10 Year Mexican Boat-Motor-Trailer Travel Permits. Yes, you heard me right! The Mexican Government is making available as of January 1st a 10 year permit that will help reduce time spent at the border securing documentation for travel into the interior with a boat. Those lucky anglers that can make several trips a year to their favorite lakes in Mexico should check into this new service being offered. By the way, Fred is returning again to Cuchillo the end of this month and once again in March. This should tell you all you need to know about this great new Mexican Fishery. When you hit it just right the angling can literally be "as good as it gets!" For info call or e-mail anytime. 800-353-8901 January 18, 2006 Just received a good report from the John Barnes group out of Houston, Texas. John reports the weather didn't exactly cooperate while on Lake Cuchillo last week, but they still managed to catch some good numbers of bass. John also reports that the food-service at the Hacienda Don Carlos was excellent this trip. And John knows good food when he finds it as he is the owner operator of numerous restaurants in the Houston area. Good fishin, great food and excellent accommodations'......all at reasonable rates... Now friends, that's what it's all about...! 800-353-8901 January 18, 2006 Man, when the weather cooperates just a little, the fishing has been good to excellent at Presa El Cuchillo. Check out these two nice bass recently photographed and released to fight again. Call today for info. 800-353-8901 January 15, 2006 The John Patton group from the Tulsa, Oklahoma area just returned from a good trip to El Cuchillo. The weather was a little rough for several days but in spite of this everyone had a good time and managed to catch lots of bass. January 8, 2006 Man, what a great report I just received! A group of happy Okie Anglers just returned from several days at Cuchillo and they were so pleased with the action they have returned again this week.....They averaged 100-150 bass per boat with everyone catching lots of quality fish with the top two over 10 pounds with a nice 11.2 as the best for the trip. I feel the hot action has just started in earnest and should be non-stop for the next several months. If you would like to experience this great new Mexican lake give us a call anytime for more info. 800-353-8901 December 8, 2005 Ivan Martin, Afton Oklahoma reports a good trip to El Cuchillo this past week with several 100-140 bass days with some nice fish in the 8 pound class. Burning a trap in the new shallow cover produced plenty of action and everyone seemed to have a good time. We look for the action to steadily improve over the next 90-120 days. If you would like to try El Cuchillo and see what you have been missing; call me today for available dates. 800-353-8901 December 7, 2005 Would you believe cold north winds and blowing SNOW? Well, at least in Oklahoma and north Texas; but listen up; the weather is warm and sunny down south of the border and the fishing is getting better by the day at El Cuchillo. This is the time of year when most American bass anglers are dreaming about that trip of a lifetime down Mexico way and let me just say it's never been easier to make your dream come true! Lake Cuchillo is by far the easiest bass destination in all of Mexico with excellent angling, first class facilities located on the water, deluxe meals and some of Mexico's finest Pro guides and equipment. When was the last time you fished in Old Mexico with an English speaking Mexican PRO Guide in a real bass boat , many equipped with color sonar-gps units, onboard laptop computers accessing real-time NEMA satellite data who consistently put you on the best action available day in and day out? That's what we offer at El Cuchillo and if you are planning a trip this season we suggest you book early, as we look for this to be our best season yet at El Cuchillo. Our "Full Service Package Trip" even includes a custom on the water video-movie of your trip so you can enjoy the good times over and over upon your return home. All this at no additional charge or inflated pricing!
2006
5 Days-4 Nights-3 Full Days on the
Water 800-353-8901 October 3, 2005 Lake Cuchillo holding steady at approximately 7 feet over pool elevation and fishing is good to excellent in all the new cover. The top water-buzz bite is really turning on and we look for this presentation to be a top producer for October and November. August 16, 2005 Lake Cuchillo is holding steady at approximately 10 feet over pool elevation. The lake has quickly cleared and fishing is outstanding in all the new cover and shallow water. Sugar lake is also above pool elevation which is located just down stream on the San Juan river. We look for some outstanding fall action at El Cuchillo this season. July 26, 2005 Lake Cuchillo has risen approximately 10 feet in elevation from the recent rains in the watershed! Fishing should quickly return to normal as the lake slowly clears. July 17, 2005 The 4th has come and gone one more time and most bass anglers are staying in close to the artificial cool breezes this month; but the few hardy anglers that have put forth the effort to spend a few days on El Cuchillo have been rewarded with some good action. Early morning seems to be the favored time frame with a little cooler weather prevailing. However, I have personally caught many a gigantic stringer of quality Mexican bass during the very hottest portions of the day in the months of July and August with my very best personal bass caught at 1:30 in the afternoon on July 4th 1996. Actually, many a bass angler still lives and dies by the old wives tale (started by a very disgruntled bass fisherman's old wife at the turn of the century) that quality bass cannot be caught during the summer months in Mexico, or any other lake for that mater and somehow as if by pure magic the quality bass all just disappear from the lake and do not return until cooler fall weather patterns set in. I have even had some of Mexico's top bass anglers swear by this and tell it for fact!! The simple truth is that they have just not learned the correct techniques and patterns that will produce during this time period and, of course, as many of you know, this is all just a bunch of BS about summer time lock-jaw. The summer months may be a little uncomfortable for the anglers, but the bass are not affected one little bit and in fact they must forage even more often on a daily basis to sustain life. What this all means to you the lucky angler is that with a little perseverance and a new outlook on how to find and catch the biggest bass in any body of water you can consistently SCORE BIG during the summer months at any Mexican Lake. Another plus for bass anglers at most Mexican Lakes during the warmer months is that you have the lake pretty much all to yourself with very little to no fishing pressure and for the real purest, many a Mexican Lake offers outstanding night time angling with absolutely no pressure on the lakes nocturnal population of bass. Of course, remember the rule of thumb axiom that the population of bass in any given body of water that forages consistently at night is directly proportional to the water clarity during a 12 month cycle. In other words, it takes consistently clear water to have a catchable population of night feeding bass on any given body of water.
One other thing that is crucial for consistent success on any body of
water during the summer months is to know EXACTLY what types of
forage are available with a good feel for the percentage ratios if
possible; as there will always be a mix of different types and size
forage that are available during any yearly cycle. This applies
for any given lake bass population and is extremely important when it
comes to the different types of shad. A little known fact about
the two main types of shad found in many Mexican Lakes (Threadfin and
Gizzard) is that a lake with a predominant Gizzard Shad population will
tend to always fish more shallow during the entire 12 month cycle, even
during the warmer months, than a lake with a primarily threadfin shad
population. The smaller threadfin shad tend to maintain in the
upper strata of the water column during their entire life cycle and the
bass will tend to suspend more in tree tops and other types of cover in
a lake with a predominant Threadfin population; while the gizzard shad
populations tend to always become bottom foragers after reaching full
maturity. This is why you will always find good numbers of quality
bass generally holding in less than 10 feet of water and especially near
shallow humps of any kind with good drops to deep water in that
immediate vicinity. This is true even during the warmest parts of
the day in the hot summer time in lakes with large gizzard shad
populations. Just remember that Gizzard Shad are bottom feeders
and Threadfin shad do not relate to the bottom while feeding. This
will always help you determine how the bass are setting up and holding
in the cover and on any given structure. Gizzard Shad can also
quickly grow to a size that is too big for most bass to forage on and be
sure to keep in mind that Shad of all types are also very susceptible to
water temperature changes and that they prefer a very narrow temperature
range. They will always move in the water column based on
this critical factor. This knowledge can be critical in finding
the forage, especially while utilizing some of the newer color sonar
units, GPS and computer software that are available to all hi-tech
anglers today! 800-353-8901

May 18, 2005 Good numbers of bass are being caught at Cuchillo this month. May is an excellent month if you are looking for lots of action and a chance to catch your double digit bass too! Call me toll free for more info. 800-353-8901 April 28, 2005 Fishing activity has slowed at Cuchillo; but the "Catchin" has remained excellent to outstanding for those savvy anglers that know the best angling of the season at El Cuchillo is April-May and June! The weather has finally settled down and the easy post spawn patterns are in place with many 100+ bass per day reported. Mr. Milo Hodges and group just returned a few days ago from 4 great days of angling at Cuchillo. Milo reports it was one of their best ever bass angling trips to Mexico and he is already making plans for a return trip. Milo reports they had many quality bass in the 7-10 pound range. I have a few spots still available for May if you would like to experience some of Mexico's best post-spawn action. Cuchillo is a great destination for the entire family with outstanding accommodations-new boats and Mexico's best guides.
800-353-8901 April 2, 2005 March-Cuchillo
Fishing has been good to excellent at Cuchillo the entire month. However, March is a transitional weather period in Northern Mexico with strong cold fronts and high winds playing havoc with the anglers and fish alike every few days. But when the weather cooperated this past month; many anglers have reported the best bass angling they have ever experienced on any Mexican Lake! Many reports of 100+ days per boat were reported with dozens of double digit bass being caught and released. Another plus for Lake Cuchillo is that no bass of any size are allowed to be kept during the months of March and April and all trophy bass are quickly returned to the water to fight again after a quick photo session. Earl Kenser and group had what Earl describes as the best ever overall bass angling trip to Mexico since he started fishing Mexico in the late "60's" with lots of quality bass up to 11+ pounds. Otis Winters and Fred Blair just returned home from another great three day trip with a 12 pound beauty their largest bass caught. DC Smith and friends had a great trip with good numbers and size bass being caught. We look for April and May to be outstanding and in fact, May is my favorite month to fish in Mexico with some of the most stable weather conditions of the entire season. Stable weather conditions equals more quality time on the water and very easy patterns. I still have a few spots available for April and May. Call toll free for more information and for info about my great Drive-In Package Trip! March 13, 2005 Cuchillo Three generations of the McCain family from Tyler, Texas just returned from what has to be one of this families best ever fishing trips with many personal best bass records shattered, along with total numbers of bass caught. Not to mention the great accommodations, five star meals, great service and first class transportation to and from the airport. James Sr. held the spotlight and honors with the largest bass for the three day trip with a beautiful 11+ caught on the last day. Jim Jr. also had a nice 10+ on their last day of angling! What a way to finish out a family trip of fun, camaraderie and great angling! If you too would like to experience one of the best overall package fishing trips available in Mexico, call me toll free anytime for booking your trip or for more information. We also have a great discounted all inclusive Drive-In Rate for those preferring to pull their own boat. The Drive-In Package includes Mexican Insurance, Fishing-Boat Permits, Discounted Hacienda Room Rates, Travel Packet, Lake Topo Map, Area Maps and some of the best "Free" advise available for having a hassle free-best ever Mexican Adventure!
March 9, 2005 800-353-8901 Guerrero I have had several great reports from this older Mexican Lake. Good numbers of fish up to 10+ for those talented anglers that know exactly where to look and catch! Spinner baits and jerk baits have produced great action in the hard woods. We are booking several fine older lodges at Guerrero. Baccarac This older west coast lake is making a nice cycle back as the Trophy lake to fish once again. Reports of a huge 18.3 bass being caught and released a few weeks ago, with many double digit bass weighed and released. Two new lodges have been built and the road has been paved for most of the final drive to the lake. Baccarac has been up in flood stage for many months and this years spawn-recruitment should be excellent. We look for this great older Mexican Lake to crank out HUGE numbers of trophy bass the next few years. Mateos Lake Mateos was constructed back in the 50's as one of Mexico's first huge irrigation lakes. The lake is at pool elevation for the first time in years and the angling has been incredibly good for numbers up to 10 pounds. It is located about one hour from Culiacan, Sinaloa on paved road. There is an older Lodge back in operation on the water and we are booking limited groups. Call for more information. February 22, 2005 Final count for the Jimmie Jackson-Billy Goetzinger group from OKC adds up to a great trip, despite the terrible weather conditions they encountered. Billy reports they only were able to spend about a day and a half out of three days on the water and the group still managed to land and release 5 over 10 pounds, 11 over 8 pounds, 18 over 7 pounds and 42 over 5 pounds. Now that's heart stopping actions folks and I still have a few spots open if you would like to catch your trophy bass at El Cuchillo. Toll Free-800-353-8901.
February 22, 2005
MORE INFORMATION February 21, 2005 Dr. Jimmie Jackson and group from OKC just returned from what I hear has been this groups best ever bass angling experience in Old Mexico. It is my understanding that they caught and released 5 bass over 10 pounds with a nice 10-6 taking big bass jackpot honors and this was in spite of some very inclement weather, high winds, foggy high pressure conditions along with a guide boat motor failure. In other words, it could not have been much more miserable conditions and this group still had plenty of trophy action. Can you imagine what it would have been like with the right weather conditions too???? For more info and booking your trip, call me anytime toll free. 800-353-8901
February 18, 2005 Man, talk about starting a Mexican Adventure in the right way!! The Dr. Jimmie Jackson group from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma had some fast paced trophy action on their first morning on the water yesterday at El Cuchillo. Before noon the group had 2- heavy 10's a 9-13, 2 more over 8 and several more over 7 with good numbers of quality bass in the 3-6 pound range. But, as the old saying goes, all good things must come to and end and wouldn't you know it; the weather turned a little nasty as the remnants of a Cold Front blew through that area of Mexico with strong gusty north winds making it less than optimum for the remainder of the day on the water. One good thing about northern Mexico this time of year however is that there is very little change in temperatures when these fronts push that far south and the wind generally lays within 24 hours.....so, they'll be right back on the fish this morning. If you would like to take a look and experience the best kept secret in all of Mexico and experience this great Mexican Angling Adventure I still have a few spots open in March-April. Actually, Cuchillo is a prime angling destination through May-June and can be at its best during the warmer months of the summer if you don't mind fishing in the warmer weather. Call me today for more information. We cater to Drive-In customers with a great discounted package rate to include all permits, Mexican insurance, travel log, lake topo map and great Hacienda rates. I also offer one of the finest "Full Service Trips" available in Mexico with top notch professional guides and equipment with five star facilities on the water.
TOLL FREE INFORMATION-BOOKINGS February 8, 2005 Fishing continues strong at Cuchillo. Lots of quality bass have moved up in or near shallow water and the annual spawning ritual is well under way. I still have a few dates in March and April if you would like to experience this great new fishery. 800-353-8901 January 31, 2005 Ken Hathcock and party just returned from a great trip at Cuchillo. Ken reports that their final day of angling was incredible; with both boats landing and releasing will over 100 bass each. Ken also reports that the big bass of the day was a nice heavy 8 with at least 25 of these weighing in at over 6 pounds. Large bass for the three days of angling was just shy of the 10 pound mark. The weather was perfect with warm days and very little wind and spinner baits of various size and color seemed to be the winning ticket for this group of very happy anglers.
January 29, 2005 John Butler and Bill Long just returned home from another good trip to Cuchillo. John reports will over 300 bass were caught while on the water for 4 days. The bass are shallow for the most part, easy to find and catch. John reports spinnerbaits did the trick for them.
January 23, 2005 January 15, 2005 Bill Long just got back from a nice three day trip to Cuchillo and he reports that they boated 300 bass with a nice 7-1/2 pounder as the big one that didn't get away. Bill is planning a return trip next week and then another 9 day trip again in March. This should tell you all you'll ever need to know about Cuchillo folks>>>>>>>Anglers that have fished this great fishery once, can't wait for another return trip! Jack O'Dell and his wife just returned from a quick trip to El Cuchillo. Jack reports that they averaged 40 bass per day with many nice bass in the 5-6 pound range daily while fishing the river area. Brush Hogs, Bass Assassins and Tiki Sticks were the ticket for them and Jack and his wife are both eagerly looking forward to a return trip later this spring. Ivan Martin and his recent group had a good time at Cuchillo this past week and in fact Ivan will be back on the water over the weekend. Ivan reports that not only was the fishing good, but the food and service at the Hacienda Don Carlos was "Outstanding," with one of the best T-Bone Steaks he has ever been served! Ivan will no doubt gain a little weight on this trip with all the good food being prepared and served at the Don Carlos "Mirador Restaurante."
January 12, 2005 Man, talk about a good trip! Otis Winters, Grove, Oklahoma is one happy man this morning! Otis has been on the water with my TOP GUIDE, Chuy Morales for the past several days and he is having his best Bass Angling experience EVER; too include his personal best Big Bass! Chuy says the bass are eating a variety of baits and presentations, to include medium-deep crankbaits, plastics and slow "movin" spinnerbaits. Otis has even enticed a few bass to eat his pretty little Japanese Popper! Chuy has recorded all this activity with his digital camera and will burn a couple CD's to give Otis on his departure date so he can re-live all these great moments anytime when he returns back to the US! January 1, 2005 Happy New Year from all the staff at Mexican Lakes! We sincerely hope this will be your "Year on the Water" with lots of big bass and action. Speaking of action; there has been very little fishing activity at Cuchillo the past couple of months, but for those anglers that did spend time on the water; they were rewarded with some fast paced action with some nice size bass being caught also. Ivan Martin and group had a good trip the last part of November and he is making another trip this month to try and get that big one all the way in the boat that got away!!! Chuy Morales, Monterrey, Mexico reports that the last BASS Tournament held at Cuchillo in December took 9 bass that weighed in at over 60 pounds for first place honors. For those of you that aren't too good with the math, I'll tell you that's almost a 7 pound average for 9 fish and folks, that's "good fishin," no matter where you are....all in all it took almost 40 pounds of bass for each contestant that placed in the top 10 slots. I have had reports from reliable sources that good numbers of 3-5 pound bass were caught slow "Rollin" spinner baits through the submerged tree-tops in the river area this past week and speaking of the river, the San Juan River is a "HUGE" fishery just by itself with over 20 miles of navigable-fishable water at the present lake elevation, which is still holding steady at a few feet over pool. There is another smaller river that flows into the San Juan, with numerous large arroyos and ditches flowing into the river, along with whole and partially submerged towns, haciendas, humps, ledges, ridges, dikes, canals, ponds, pond dams, cypress, mesquite, huzachie, even one old submerged Ford Pick-Up Truck that always has a few bass in bed>>>>>>>> all this great cover and structure are holding bass if you happen to be there at the right time with the right presentation. I look for the action to be even better this spring at Cuchillo than last year and believe me, it was as good as it gets for some of my customers this past February and March....Cuchillo is one lake you don't want to miss this upcoming season! Call me today for your reservations and more information! Deluxe "Full Service" trips are always available and Drive-In customers are always welcome with a great all inclusive discount package available that includes room, permits, Mexican Insurance, travel logs, area maps and lake topo map!
