The first
stirrings of the seasons change are beginning to become evident as we
are finally starting to see some cooler mornings; but along with
this welcome temperature change we are also entering the peak part of
the Hurricane and Tropical Storm Season in this area of the world
and wouldn't you know it, Mexico is expecting both coasts to be
impacted by major Tropical Storms within the next 5-7 days. We
have Tropical Depression Hennriette moving up the west coast and
Hurricane Felix is expected to wash ashore on the east coast by the
later part of this next week. We will be monitoring these
storm systems very closely and updating as information becomes
available.

HURRICANE FELIX EXPECTED TO
IMPACT EAST COAST OF MEXICO
BRINGING MORE RAIN!

TROPICAL STORM HENRIETTE
MOVES UP MEXICAN WEST COAST
SEPTEMBER 2, 2007
We
expect to have a great fishing season this next year
with all this new water at most lakes with higher lake
elevations and many Mexican lakes are also in a peak
cycle as far as producing excellent angling. Lake
Baccarac continues to be the hot destination for size
and numbers of bass, but several other lakes are
producing great angling as well. Older Lake
Novillo has made a nice cycle back and the lakes
watershed is still receiving plentiful rainfall and we
expect Novillo to be at the highest elevation we have
seen in years and as and extra bonus, the heavy stocking
of Florida Genetics several years ago is beginning to
really show up, as anglers report more "Grande" bass
being caught than they have ever seen at Novillo.
For those of you that have never fished Novillo, it is
by far one of the most beautiful lakes in all Mexico.
I made my first journey to fish this great lake way back
in 1968 when there was nothing much more than a dirt
trail out of Hermosillo, Sonora and it took 8 hours to
drive the last 96 kilometers, but once we rounded that
last curve on that very bumpy-rough mountain trail,
the hard drive was quickly forgotten as we took in the
majestic beauty of Lake Novillo for the very first time.
Of course, the road is paved all the way to the lake
now, as the Mexican Government has made giant strides in
upgrading and building their new highway system since
NAFTA was introduced and the flow of massive amounts of
subsidies, grants and low interest loans streamed South
of the border.. Lake Cuchillo located in the State
of Nuevo Leon could actually produce some fair angling
for quality bass this season, as Sugar Lake located just
north of Cuchillo has had most of the pressure for the
past several years and this has given Cuchillo a much
needed break from all the heavy fishing activity.
Lake Guerrero over in the State of Tamaulipas could also
be a great destination as well. Older Lake Mateos
over on the west coast could be a great
destination and as I have previously noted; Billy Chapman Jr. is
constructing a new "First Class Facility" on Mateos; so, this tells
one something about the angling potential, as he is making a rather
large investment of capital in his beautiful new facility. The
Lodge is scheduled for completion sometime in November this year and we
are offering "Special" opening package pricing. Please call for all
the great details. Mateos is a fairly easy lake to access with an easy drive to the lake on all paved roads from the airport
in Culican, the capital of the State of Sinaloa. So, as you can see,
we have a good number of lakes for anglers to choose from for
a great Mexican Adventure this next season. We book every lake
in Mexico and are looking forward to helping everyone have another
great time South of the Border. Call or e-mail me anytime for
current info and rates. We love to talk BASS!!

| Yours truly is
taking a little time off today for the Labor Day Celebration
here in the USA. Actually, I am trying to also finish up
the rigging of a new bass boat. We'll be back online
tomorrow with updates on the Tropical Storms that could bring
flooding rains to both coasts of Mexico. |
|

September 4, 2007
|

What a
difference a day can make in the intensity and direction of
Tropical Storms. It sure looks as if the west coast of
Mexico is going to get pounded and drenched with heavy
rainfall from upgraded Henriette to hurricane status.
Many lakes in North western Mexico could receive much needed
and substantial run-off!

Meanwhile it looks as if Hurricane Felix may
track further to the south and bring rain to the far southern Mexican mountain
ranges.
We will be
staying on top of this and bringing you the latest lake
conditions as they become available. If you are
planning a trip to Mexico in the next few months on either
coast; be sure and take along your best rain-gear as it
looks like it's going to be an active later part of their
Tropical Storm Season! |
|

September 5, 2007
|
Well,
it looks as if the weather forecasters finally got it
right for a change; at least with their predictions for
a very active Hurricane-Tropical Storm season! Enough
already! However; it looks as if all the
conditions are in place for several more major systems
to develop over the warmer than usual waters off the
coast of Africa and Caribbean-Gulf of Mexico.

We have
already had 2 category Five Hurricanes blow on shore
this season and this is the very first time since
records have been maintained that 2 category 5's have
blown ashore in the same year. And, as if that
weren't enough, 2 hurricanes have made landfall on the
same day.
The
latest Hurricane Henriette is expected to wash ashore
near Los Mochis, Sinaloa bringing heavy rains over the
mountain range as it continues moving west-northwest and
weakens to tropical depression status. Henriette
is then predicted to impact the southwestern part of the
USA before the remnants move into the central part of
the USA> with more heavy rainfall.
I will
be updating Mexican Lake Elevations as soon as accurate
information is made available, but many west coast lakes
should receive substantial run-off from this storm!
On a
brighter note, all this nutrient rich run-off coupled
with higher lake elevations should make for some
fantastic angling this upcoming season. |

It looks like all
the Tropical activity has finally subsided over
Mexico for a few days and now all the clean up and repair
efforts can get underway. There was major damage
in some areas of the country, especially along
the coast line near the centers of activity and
in the higher mountainous elevations where
torrential flooding and mudslides were reported.
There is one small
area of heavy thunderstorms moving up the west
coast mountain ranges and this should bring more
substantial run-off to some of the lakes in the
States of Nayarit and Sinaloa.

Based on all my
recent research, most all the major lakes in
Mexico should be in excellent condition for this
upcoming season with plenty of water and eager
bass! As soon as I receive accurate
information, I'll be posting lake elevation
increases for all west coast lakes that received
rain from the recent Hurricane Henriette that
blew ashore near Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
Yours truly will
be promoting and helping to try and save as many
Bass as possible at all Mexican Lakes that are
caught and released, especially those that are
transported in livewells for lengthy periods and
then weighed at all fishing tournaments.
It is imperative that all anglers and tournament
organizers become more cognizant-knowledgeable
about the problem of delayed mortality due to
improper handling by both the participants' and
organizers alike. Below is a great link
with excellent scientific information concerning
this vital matter:

September 9, 2007
Your webmaster
is turning another year older today and let me tell you; someone stretched the
truth about the "Golden Years," as it is
now my
belief that those "Golden Years" are
actually between the ages of 20 & 40.
It seems as if each year after the age of 40
new aches, pains and all the other associated
problems of the aging process really kick
into over-drive, however, since the
alternative is not a viable option for most
folks, I'm just
happy for each new day I get to share with
friends-family-all my customers and that I am still able to
"Pitch" and cast for old jaws!
We are
still seeing the normal summer monsoonal
rainfall all up and down the West Coast of
Mexico in the higher elevations of the
Sierra Madres Occidental mountain range and
many lakes are receiving much needed
run-off. One lake in particular that
could produce fantastic angling this next
season is Presa El Novillo, located in the
foothills of the Sierra Madres east of
Hermosillo in the State of Sonora. The
lake has received and is still receiving
substantial run-off and could be at its
highest elevation in years within the next
few months. I will offer English
speaking guide service at this beautiful
older Mexican Lake for this next season and
as previously mentioned; the lake has been
heavily stocked in the past years with
Florida Bass Genetics. We offer charter air
service into the lake area with very nice
facilities within minutes of the lake.
Please call me for more info about this
great older Mexican Lake. This is a real
Mexican Sleeper and could very easily offer
the bass angling adventure of a lifetime!

WEST COAST
MONSOON RAINS

On a little
different subject matter; have you tried the
free download on Google of our Mother Earth?
They have actually added a new update which
also shows the sky with all galaxies, stars
and other interesting data. This
program is not only a great learning
experience for both young and old alike, it
can also be a valuable tool for looking at
new bodies of water before fishing them.
As an example, many times a body of water
will be far below pool elevation when the
photo is taken from high above the earth and
shows all the humps, ridges, points, islands
and other interesting structure-cover and all
with real time GPS coordinates! Wow,
what a valuable tool and as mentioned, the
program offers full GPS coordinates and the
"Pro Version" of Google Earth can actually
be accessed in real time by inputting the
NEMA satellite data into your laptop while
on the water. This enables one to view
real-time positions with just a quick
glance! Some computer manufactures are
beginning to produce laptops LCD monitors
that are designed for viewing outdoors in
the bright sunlight, with great viewing
capabilities' like on our Sonar-GPS units.
This has always been a problem in the past
while trying to view your laptop on the
water on a bright sunny day.
Give this free
Google Earth download a try! You'll be
amazed at how much information is available
and if you are really serious, Microsoft's
version of Virtual Earth is absolutely
amazing with all the detail and information.
The weather channel on line is running a
beta version of real time information
utilizing MS-Virtual Earth for many
areas and one can zoom in to great detail
all around the globe. All the lakes in
Mexico are shown with great detail in both
programs, (albeit) no topo info before the
lake was actually constructed.

Good news for
those of you that have put off applying for a
Passport. The State Department has finally
started making some positive progress in process
times due to the massive backlog of applications
over the past many months.
Expected delivery
times as of September 10, 2007 should be
approximately 6-8 weeks from the actual date of
receipt of your application and if you pay an
extra fee for expedited services you can expect
delivery within 3 weeks.
Check the link
below for your nearest application center.
Passports are proposed to be required by all
those individuals traveling by automobile to
re-enter the USA from Mexico starting in January
2008; however, due to the huge backlog for
passports, it is still unclear about this
requirement date and this requirement has
tentatively been changed. It is this
writers opinion after extensive research that a
valid birth certificate and drivers license will
still work and that Passports will not be
required for several more years for those
traveling by vehicle. Please be aware that
a Valid Passport is a requirement if re-entering
the USA by air, however, this rule has even been
temporarily relaxed and a birth certificate with
other valid ID will still suffice for the
present because your friendly State Department
was totally unprepared for the deluge of
applications that have been received over the
past 12 months. It will be at least another
year or more before the Passport issue for
those traveling to Mexico is finally resolved.
However, this writer "sez" play it smart and go
ahead and purchase your Passport. It only takes
a few minutes to take the 2-photos and complete
the necessary forms and you can be assured that
at some point in the future a valid passport
will be required!
http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/
Costs will vary
depending on the type service-delivery time you
require; but be prepared to spend $100.00 plus
dollars which will include shipping-Fed-Ex and
State Department processing fees.
We highly
recommend that all anglers contemplating a trip
south of the border next year apply now.
American Passports are and accepted form
of positive Identification around the world and
are valid for 10 years from the date of issue. |

OIL-GAS PIPELINE BLASTS IN MEXICO!
Here's
a little reported story that took
place in Mexico yesterday. A
shadowy leftist guerrilla group has
taken credit for a string of
explosions that ripped apart at
least a dozen Mexican Oil & Gas
Pipelines in the gulf coast State of
Veracruz rattling financial markets
around the globe with huge
production losses for Pemex. At first glance one might
not be able to readily connect these
events with bass angling.....but
with a little closer scrutiny, it is
fairly easy to see that any
disruption in the supply of oil and
gas production-distribution in
Mexico could have a tremendous
effect on all forms of travel to
that country with much higher fuel
prices or shortages. These
blasts have already caused 100's of
millions of dollars in lost
production and if one understands
that the Mexican governments
monopoly Petroleos Mexicanas is the
nations number one source of revenue
it is very easy to understand that
any long term disruption of this
flow of capital would have very
adverse consequences throughout the
whole Mexican Society; and around
the world as well. Mexico
supplies a large percentage of
America's oil and gas that is used
on a daily basis and we could also
see much higher prices for both gas
and oil.
The
Mexican Government has reportedly
sent large numbers of Mexican Troops
so that other Pemex fundamental
installations are secure from this
type sabotage. At one point
10's of thousands of Mexican
citizens were evacuated from the
immediate areas of these huge
blasts. I would expect to see
higher prices at the pump all across
Mexico in the future along with
natural gas prices at major
manufacturing plants that use huge
volumes of natural gas in their
various plants. Which in turn
means higher prices for all
consumers. We hope the Mexican
Government can quickly find and
arrest those responsible.

On a
different subject; we have just
received updates as of yesterday
September 10th on major lake
elevations all across Mexico.
As we reported earlier, most West
Coast Lakes received large amounts
of run-off from the recent Hurricane
Henriette. One lake in
particular, Lake Mocuzari just north
of Los Mochis, Sinaloa has risen a
whopping 16 feet in just the past
few days. All other lakes in
that area of Mexico have also had
significant run-off; to include Lake
Novillo receiving 6 feet of new
water and is within a few feet of
pool elevation for the first time in
years. For other updated Lake
Elevations check my Lakes Elevation

FISHGILLZ POLARIZED FLOATERS
If
you're like me, over the years
you've lost a pair or two of
favorite sunglasses overboard at
one time or another while
fishing for jaws ; and it always
makes for a bad day on the water
as you watch those high dollar
babies slowly sink out of sight
in 80 feet of pearly blue water.
Maybe they blew off while blasting down
the lake at 80 MPH trying to
outrun those other 400 boats
that were heading for the exact
same honeyhole too; or perhaps
while just
bending over a little too far
while trying to scoop up jaws
and you forgot to attach that keeper cord
stuffed somewhere in the bottom
of that monster tackle box;
but whatever the cause, here's
some good news about a pair of
sunglasses that actually float
if accidentally dropped into the water.
And to make this product even
better, they are a quality
manufactured pair of glasses
with no distortion and with nice wrap around
styling for
maximum eye protection and to
top it off, they are polarized
at a decent price.
For more info about this great product, check out this
site:

On
a different subject, we will be booking trips this upcoming
season to one of the most famous
lakes in all of Mexico;
beautiful-productive Lake Novillo; located
in the State of Sonora just east
of Hermosillo. We have a
very nice set-up with great
equipment and English speaking
guides that really know this
beautiful older Mexican Mountain
Lake. Novillo was stocked
heavily with Florida Genetics
several years ago and the lake
has made a definite cycle back
to great angling once again and
as an added bonus the lake is
near normal pool elevation for
the first time in several years.
If you are looking for a new,
easy destination to try this
year South of the border, give
me a call for more info! The
west coast lakes are still
receiving copious amounts of
rainfall each afternoon and
evening and are going to be in
great shape for this upcoming
season.

Tropical storm develops!

September 14, 2007
Hurricane Humberto sure
snuck up on everyone!
Luckily, it missed
northeastern Mexico which
does not need more flooding
rainfall as most North East
Coast Lakes are near pool or
even into flood stage.
Sugar Lake located below
Lake Cuchillo is running
over the spillway at about 2
feet into flood stage. More
heavy late monsoonal
rainfall is however
predicted in that area of
Mexico and the west coast
mountain ranges also. I
suspect Sugar and Cuchillo
will both be in flood stage
through most of the months
of October-November.
Humberto made landfall near
the Louisiana border and has
tracked to the east bringing
much needed rainfall to the
drought stricken southeast
US.
TROPICAL STORM INGRID

It looks as if the newly
forming Tropical Storm
Ingrid will track to the
North and East where it will
encounter more shear and
unfavorable conditions for
further development and
hopefully slowly dissipate
before making landfall.
We will continue tracking
this storm with updates as
warranted.

TERRY AND CHERYL: JUST GOT BACK FROM ANOTHER "GREAT" TRIP TO THE LODGE. YEAH, WE CLOSED DOWN THE LODGE AGAIN FOR THIS YEAR. RUSS, RENE AND TONY TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF US AS DID ALL THE STAFF. THERE WERE 5 OF US FROM PHOENIX, SCOTT ANDERSON, BILL MEREDITH AND MYSELF. WE HAD TWO BUDDIES FROM FLAGSTAFF AND SEDONA, DAN BRIGHT AND STEVE ASH. STEVE AND DAN USED SWIM BAITS AND CAUGHT A BUNCH OF GREAT FISH IN THE RANCHO PADRE AREA. DAN HAD AN 11.10 AND STEVE A 9.6, THEY ALSO CAUGHT NUMEROUS FISH IN THE 6 TO 9 POUND RANGE. SCOTT, BILL AND I ALSO DID VERY WELL, WITH BILL BAGGING AN 11.9, SCOTT A 10.14 AND ME WITH A 10+. WE CAUGHT A BUNCH OF FISH IN THE 6 TO 9 RANGE AND TONS IN THE 4 AND 5 POUND RANGE. TROPICAL STORM IVO

|
Here we go
again! Newly forming Tropical
Storm Ivo is expected to impact the Baja
area of Mexico first and then move
ashore in much the same area as
Henriette; bringing more flooding
rainfall to many Mexican west coast
lakes. And if that's not enough, there
is a low pressure area forming off the
west coast of Florida that is predicted
to move into the warm waters off the
gulf of Mexico and could eventually
affect the Northeastern coast of Mexico.
Ivo should put most west coast lakes in
excellent shape for the upcoming season. |

UPDATED PASSPORT INFO
Here's
some good news for all that have put
off purchasing a Passport. The
State Department has changed the
requirement date for those driving
into Mexico. The new date for
Passport requirement to re-enter the
USA by automobile has been changed
to June of
2009. So until that
date or other changes are made; an
ORIGINAL Birth Certificate or
Certified copy thereof and valid
driver's license will still get you
back into the USA. The State
Department has been totally
overwhelmed with Passport
applications and is finally
beginning to deliver Passports in a
more timely fashion once again,
however, be prepared to wait 6 to 8
weeks for delivery from the date
your application has been received
at your Passport Issuing Agency.
The Passport requirement for flying
into Mexico now stands at October 1,
2007. However, this too could be
relaxed again?
It is
my opinion that all of you planning
a drive in trip to Mexico in 2008
should go ahead and purchase your
Passport now! The State
Department link below offers more
info:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
Tropical Storm Ivo has been upgraded
to Hurricane status and continues to
strengthen along the Mexican West
coast and is expected to make
landfall in the Baja sometime
Sunday. It will then move
across the Sea of Cortes and make
landfall once again near Los Mochis,
Sinaloa bringing torrential rainfall
and flooding as it moves over the
Sierra Madre mountain range bringing
more run-off to many west coast
lakes.

IVO PREDICTED TO BRING
FLOODING RAINFALL TO
NORTHWESTERN MEXICAN LAKES!
Hurricane Ivo is forecast to
make landfall sometime Sunday
and then move up the mainland
west coast on Monday, dumping
more needed rainfall on some
west coast lake watersheds.
We will be monitoring this storm
system very closely and bringing
updates as they are available.
A
low pressure system is also
developing in the Gulf of Mexico
west of Florida and the weather
is conducive for formation of
yet another storm system. It has
already affected oil production
in the Gulf as many offshore
rigs have been shutdown.
It is not clear yet how or if
this system might effect the
East coast of Mexico and
Southern USA.

TROPICAL STORM IVO

Hurricane Ivo has been
downgraded to tropical storm
status and is expected to
move ashore on the west
coast Mexican mainland
sometime Wednesday as a low
depression. This is a very
slow moving storm and could
easily bring the heaviest
rainfall of the season all
along that area of Mexico if
it continues moving at it's
present pace.
Forecasters are still
predicting a landfall near
the Los Mochis, Sinaloa area
and as many of you know,
there are many Mexican Lakes
in this area built primarily
for irrigation. In
fact, this part of Mexico is
known as the country's bread
basket with 10's of
thousands of acres of lush,
irrigated farm land.
Many lakes in that area are
already at or near Pool
Elevation to include Lake
Dominguez and Lake Hidalgo
and will probably move into
flood stage within the next
several weeks with this
latest round of heavy
rainfall.
We anticipate that all west
coast lakes will be in
"Prime" condition for this
upcoming season. If
you would like more
information about any lake
in Mexico, call me anytime

talk BASS and help folks
have a great Mexican

A new Tropical
Depression is making its
way ashore on the
Mexican East Coast.
It is expected to bring
heavy rainfall to the
eastern and central
regions of Mexico as it
moves to the West.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION 13
Hopefully this storm
will move in a more
southerly direction as
the Lakes in Northern
Mexico are all near pool
or in flood stage
already and do not need
more torrential rainfall
and flooding run-off.
If you are planning a
trip to Mexico this
upcoming season, please
give me a call toll free
for the latest
information and booking
availability. There have
been several changes
made reference the
Passport requirements.
On a different subject;
we have been off-line

the process of making
server changes. We
look forward to helping
all our valuable
