Fishing has been
very slow lately
because of
fluctuating
water
conditions.
The lake has
been up several
feet over flood
stage but has
recently been quickly drawn
down to normal
pool and the
bass have been
moving daily.
As the water
level tends to
stabilize with a
slower rate of
draw down for
irrigation we
look for the
angling to
improve
dramatically by
the end of
this month.
Sam Wade-

GRINGO'S EASILY WIN 4TH ANNUAL
INTERNATIONAL FISH OFF AT LAKE GUERRERO.
AMERICAN BASS
CHAMPS WIN BY 50# MARGIN
Date:
Friday-August 8, 2008
Lakes: Mexican West Coast
Most
West Coast Lakes to include Baccarac,
Salto, Comedero, Huites are closed for the
rainy season until September-October. All
west coast lakes are receiving good run-off
from the monsoonal rains and all lake levels
are on the rise.
Lake:
Guerrero
Guerrero: The lake has risen
some 3 feet from recent rainfall. The
24 man Bass Champ Team have trailored their
Skeeter's to Guerrero this week and are
fishing a tournament against Mexico's best
24 man teams this weekend at Guerrero.
The American teams lead this annual series
2-1 and you can bet the Mexican Teams will
be making every cast count trying to even
the series at 2 each. It will be
interesting to see the results, as Guerrero
has been slowly making a cycle back to
excellent angling. Hopefully the fish and
weather will cooperate and some nice bags
will be weighed by all contestants.
Lake: Cuchillo
Cuchillo-Fishing Slow. A
few fish caught on plastic. Water will be
released from Cuchillo into Sugar and this
should be beneficial for both lakes,
especially Sugar.
Lake: Sugar
Sugar: Fishing Fair to Good on
crankbaits and Plastic. Lake is still
low from this years heavy irrigational draw
down.
Lake: Baccarac
Baccarac: The lake has
risen some 20% in the past several weeks
with copious amounts of run-off. The
paving project on the road from Bacubirito
to the lake has been completed and it will
now only be a few minutes drive from the
Airstrip to the Lodge this season. We
look for Baccarac to crank out the best
angling available anywhere in the world this
upcoming season.
Lake: Falcon
Falcon:
This
super sleeper surprise lake of the year is
producing fair action fishing jigs-plastic
and cranks on some of the good points and
drops. Sadly, we must report that
Commercial angling has already taken a heavy
toll on the Falcon bass population and we
look for the action to slowly deteriorate
over the next year due to excessive harvest
of the bass population.

Jim
Farrow:, Dave Seitenbach, Randy Wedel, Dean
Akin, caught 477 fish in 4 days!
Each of us caught our personal best on the trip,
w/ 3 fish over 10, 2 over 9, 13 over 8, and 19
over 7, and countless others in the 5-6# range.
In fact, one of our group caught so many fish
that he was, "en fuego", as he described it. The
black jig w/ Senko trailer was the big fish
bait, although my biggest fish and several
others over 8 were caught on a rattletrap. The
food was great, the service was excellent, and
the guides, Juan and Cluadio, were good as they
come. Needless to say, we had a blast, and can't
wait to come back. Baccarac is awesome!
Charles
Townsend
Our group fished June 26-29th at Lake
Baccarac Lodge and enjoyed another great trip.
We did not catch as many fish as last time, but
the big fish bite was on. All 4 of us caught our
largest bass! Big fish were as follows: 10-14,
10-10, 10-7, and a 10-3. A number of 9 lb fish
were caught, along with lots of 6-8 lb fish. We
rarely caught a fish under 4 lbs! Best baits
were 1 oz jigs, swimbaits, and some ratl-traps
and crankbaits. Food and hospitality were great
as always. The last day a MAJOR thunderstorm
rolled into the area and we were forced off the
lake early - looks like the rainy season has
begun. We will be back!!
The last group of the
season departed July 5th and reported an
excellent big fish bite. The Bass Champ boys
Chad Potts, Jeff Massey and others landed fish
over 12 pounds. Gil Wright made the last trip of
the season and also managed a fish over 10
pounds. Others also reported trophies. The Lodge
is closed until Sept 22nd other than a couple
small groups coming over the next 6 weeks.
Baccarac proved again this season that it is
without question the best Bass Lake in the
World!

REPORT FROM: KENNY ROGERS
Hello Pitch,
Just got back from Lake Baccarac yesterday and
it was nothing short of awesome. We had 4 guys
get their personal best down there. Dale Wilson
led the group with a 12-5, his grandson Tyler
Black ( 17yrs old ) had a great trip with
11-7,10-8,and10-4, Johnny Reavis had a 10-7,and
Shawn Williams had 9-1 and 8-14.We as a group
had 22 fish over 8 lbs,
10-8,10-4,9-5,8-5,8-4,8-13,9-1,9-4,9-5,9-1,12-5,9-4,11-7,9-2,8-14,8-5,8-1,10-4,10-7,8-1,8-7-8-2.
Would also like to mention Les Scheurich as he
gave me a personal butt kicking with a 10-4 and
many other good fish. R ene and his help at the
lodge were top notch. This is a great fishery
that all bass fishermen would really enjoy.
As a group, we caught a total of at least 590
bass.

group of 5
I just
read the attached
report and am
compelled to reply.
Not to be outdone,
our group of five
also had an awesome
trip. We were
very impressed with
EVERYTHING about
your operation, from
the pre-trip
communication and
logistics to the
trip itself. From
the time we left El
Paso on the charter
flight, we were
chaperoned and
treated like welcome
guests. Russ, Rene
and all the lodge
staff went out of
their way to be
accommodative. Our
thanks to each and
every one of them.
As for the fishing,
WOW! We each caught
the biggest bass of
our lives with at
least 20
fish over ten pounds.
Tito Woodburn won
the big bass pot
with a 12.0 and
everyone thought
they had bigger bass
break/pull off
during the fight.
We switched partners
during our trip, but
I mainly fished with
Narlin, and he was
terrific. Very
knowledgeable and a
joy to fish with.
The other guides
were Pedro and
Mario, and they were
outstanding, also.
My only regret is
that we did not
bring more big black
jigs, and they were
sold out of them
at the lodge. The
trees and lake
bottom must be
littered with them.
The bite was
definitely with 1 oz
and larger black
jigs with huge senko/lizard/worm
trailers, and we
lost what we had
early on. Rene
showed me his
favorite rig and I
now know to bring
reels spooled with
50# braid with a 50#
mono tag end. You
definitely lose
fewer jigs with that
combo! John
Velky
The fishing has
been excellent with
the big jig bite
producing the
biggest fish. On the
afternoon of May
31st Rob Ard
had an excellent big
bite with his
5 biggest fish
weighing 49.5 pounds
and also catching 14
fish over 7 pounds
Morris and I had
a great trip once
again. We caught a
total of 504 bass. I
wear a little
counter around my
neck. We had 5 fish
of 1-10lb 0oz,2 10lb 4oz, 1-11lb 2oz,
1-12lb 1oz. That
means of course that
we caught 5 bass of
10lbs or more. We
had at least 4
others up to the
boat that got off
that were over 10lb
fish. The service,
the food, the boats
and the guides were,
as usual, just
great. I hope that
an opening during
June develops but if
it doesn't I will go
back in the fall as
soon as possible.

LAKE BACCARAC
One of our local guides reports finding a
floating Bass yesterday, May 30th at
Lake Baccarac that weighed a
staggering 21 pounds.
Unfortunately, the guide was unable
to resuscitate this huge fish,
however, it is my personal belief
that bass even larger than this are
swimming in the pristine waters of
beautiful Lake Baccarac! We
are booking Fall trips very quickly
and if you want a shot at your
personal largest bass and fishing
trip of a lifetime, you need to call
or e-mail me today!

Awesome!!!
It
has been just great - huge
numbers of 10 lb. fish.
Tommy Rice who
just returned, reported an
excellent trip his group
catching six fish over 10
lbs.
Will Garrison
also just returned and
reports four fish over 12
lbs.
Gil Wright's group,
flying in by private jet,
just an awesome trip, with
four over 10 lbs. -
Bob Gist
winning the big fish pot.
Bert Johnson group
catching four or five 10 lb.
fish a day. The area near
Rancho Padre is producing
the best action, the big
fish coming from the islands
near Russo's pass. The hot
bait this week has
definitely been large 1-1/2
oz. rattletraps.

Terry
Hollan himself is at a loss
for words to describe the
fast paced action at
Baccarac right now:
Terry Sez: "Awesome it's
just awesome
angling!!"
He
really can't add much to
that and sez we are
catching so many big bass all over
the lake using swimbaits,
spinnerbaits, jigs and
crankbaits. I can't even say
that color has a whole lot
to do with it. There are
literally too many 10 pound
and larger bass reported
being caught to post. Terry
Rader of Rader's Fish and
Game reported unbelievable
numbers of 8 to 10 lb. fish
and reported "best trip
ever." Terry Sez: "We are
going to stick our neck way out
on the chopping block and
make a simple statement:
Baccarac is probably the
best lake in the word right
now."

LAKE BACCARAC
Here is great
report from Fred Dawson Jr. who recently spent 4 days
fishing Lake Baccarac: If this doesn't get your
fishing fever up; nothing will!
Pitch,
A few
corrections:
Chet
Cowsar caught 2 fish over 11 lbs
(I)
caught a 10.2 and 3 more over 8 and 1 at 9.5 the last
day, the 3rd day I caught 97 for the day and Sture Berg
(not Steve) caught 63 and our guide Juan caught 25 just
playing around, 185 fish for the day in the boat. My
boat averaged 120 bass per day. Super fishing in
anyone's book.
75% on
big crankbaits, but all the very biggest fish came on
big jigs and 9" senkos.
I had
one afternoon of 2 hrs non stop spinnerbait fishing. Big
1-1/2 oz
Lastly, I had my braided line broken twice by big fish.
Good new braid 65 lb. Interesting.
I had
one fish and Sture and Juan were witnesses, nearly to
the boat, estimated was 12 plus, she rolled and broke
the bill of a new D-22 completely off from the plug.
Unbelievable! I wished I had boated her for she would
have been bigger than my best of
13.2......................
The
trip was by far the best I've been on in all my years
of fishing Mexican Lakes. All of my customers caught the
biggest fish of their lives and the food and
accommodations were all excellent just as you told me.
Terry
spent some time with us and it was a pleasure to finally
meet him. I plan to head down again in October or
November and next spring as well and will be getting
with you for our reservations soon.
A great
trip was had by all and I know I won't have any trouble
filling my plane again.

MEXICAN ADVENTURE
Yours
truly just returned from "ANOTHER" bass angling trip of a
lifetime with once in a lifetime action at fabled Lake Baccarac
and several other Mexican Trophy Bass Factories as well!
In just
one day on the water while fishing at beautiful Lake Baccarac
this month, I caught and released a staggering 13 bass over 10
pounds, with a total of 17 Bass over 10 pounds while fishing
this beautiful Mexican Bass Paradise!! I
did not find the bass I was looking for (new lake record), but
the action was non-stop once I got a few trophy spots located
and the best trophy techniques-presentations mastered! Hopefully, I'll be able to
spend some more time at this angling paradise again soon!
I was fortunate enough to be able to take a few extra days in
travel time and trailer in my own boat that I have rigged
exclusively for my Mexican Adventures! This sleeper bass
boat is loaded with lots of extra electronics to include a new
laptop computer programmed to access NEMA data outdoors in the
bright sunlight.
Actually, the trophy action started off very slow for this old "Okie" at Baccarac and I had to struggle for a few days and
change tactics several times before hitting on a great
winning pattern with positive presentations in the beautiful
clear waters of this awesome mountain lake. Without a
doubt, Lake Baccarac has staggering numbers of 6-12 pound
bass and with the lake management team that is in place at the present
time, I look for this
"Red Hot Bass Paradise"
to only continue to
improve over time.
I'll be
posting lots of pictures and editing a great video, to include
Terry Hollan's absolute awesome facilities at Baccarac Lodge
where I was fortunate enough to call home for a few days.
There is not another angling lodge in Mexico that comes remotely
close to the overall service and excellence of this Mexican
mountain paradise and from the moment you pass through the
main gates of the Baccarac Lodge compound; you have no doubts
about having an Angling Adventure of a lifetime!
Absolutely outstanding trip
again. The food,
accommodations, service and
fishing were superior.
Rene, Russ and the entire
staff went out of their way
to accommodate us once
again.
The
fishing was awesome. Our
group of 10 caught 29 fish
over 8 pounds on our trip
and all but one of us got
his personal best fish.
Matt Brewer scored dozens of
fish in the 7 to 8 pound
range and added a 9-0 and a
9-4 on Spooks. David Lewis
had several 6 to 8 pounders
including an 8-5, 8-7 and
8-10. David’s dad Jerry
added an 8-0, 8-11 and 9-0.
Joe Copeland boated an 8-0,
8-4, 8-5, 9-12 and a 10-1.
Joe’s 82 year old dad James
nailed a 9-2. Jon Parsley’s
previous best was a 3
pounder; he landed an 8-0,
10-2, 10-13, 11-4 and a
13-7. Derek Krider nailed a
9-14, 10-3, 10-4, 11-5,
12-11 and a 14-3 (Big
Fish). Can’t wait to return
in November for some top
water action.

winner was Bracken Finnell

jackpot the last day with
each of the eight boats
weighing one fish from each
fisherman and it took 23
pounds to win. Congrads to
Joe Podpechan 12.5 lbs. and
Jim Simmons 10.5 to win.
This was Jim’s forth trip
with us and until this trip
had never caught a fish over

on the lake or the guide).
This year he had a 7, 8, 9,

Hi
Cheryl,
"Just a
note regarding our trip this past week.Out of ten of us,
everyone caught at least one 10 pound fish.
We had
over twenty-five 10-11 pounders, three 11-12 pounders,
one 12-13 pounder, and one 14 lbs 8 ozs. The trip was
great. Its a little early for me to get deposits from
everyone, but if you would, please reserve the same
timeframe for ten of us next year.
We
fished the Lake February 14 thru February 18, 2008.
Please
let me know if this is possible.

This report pretty well
says it all about Lake Baccarac over on the west coast.
There has never been another lake in the world that comes
close to the trophy angling now being experienced at
Baccarac.
MR. TERRY
HOLLAN,
owner of Lake Baccarac Lodge reports that the fishing has
been nothing short of phenomenal; "Personally being on the
water the past several days, I have witnessed without a
doubt the best fishery in the world producing the world's
best Bass angling. The numbers of 10+ lb. fish caught are
too numerous to list for the past week."
By the way, as an added
note from yours truly; just in case you do not already know,
every fisherman that experiences this incredible TROPHY
action at Baccarac needs to understand that Terry Hollan is
the man responsible for helping promote the catch and
release a Trophy Bass Program that is now being practiced at
Baccarac by all anglers; to include the commercial Mexican
fishermen. There is absolutely no way the angling
would be this outstanding without the hard work of Mr. Terry
Hollan and his staff of dedicated personnel. When you
get a chance, you need to personally thank this man for all
his hard work, expertise and effort in making certain
that you experience the finest bass angling in all the world
while fishing Lake Baccarac!
Troy Wells from
California personally caught 22 bass over 10lbs.
during his stay at the lodge.
Steve Thomas of
Dallas
went out and caught a 10+ lb. fish every session his four
days of fishing.
Gayle Vaught of
Arkansas,
on Valentine's Day morning, caught 19 fish over 9 lbs. Now
that's a Happy Valentine's Day!
Gary West reported
his best fishing trip ever,
with fish up to 12 lbs. caught on a regular basis this past
week. We have been fishing anywhere from 5 feet of water to
35 feet of water.
Trent Loukas of
Amarillo, TX,
landed a 10.6 pound fish inches off of the bank using a
solid black jig with a black trailer. 1 oz. spinnerbaits
bounced on the bottom in 30 feet of water produced not only
numbers but quality fish. Right now, Lake Baccarac has it
all. If you want numbers, go up the river and you will
catch all the fish you want. If you want trophies, as you
can tell, they aren't too hard to find.
More good news! Our
five new rooms are complete and we have room at the lodge
for more people for the rest of the season.
If you would like to
experience this once in a lifetime opportunity, call today
while we still have a few spots open!
It was great to get back
on the water at Lake Huites, the most beautiful lake in
Mexico. Just as the lodge had been reporting, I got to
experience some red hot action. It seems as though
numbers of fish could be caught almost anywhere on the
lake. I personally had my best catches up the Rio
Fuerte. Topwater action even in the middle of the day
sure was a lot of fun. We are having plenty of fish
caught, some boats catching well over 150 per day, with
a lot of small fish but we have seen plenty of 6, 7 and
8 lb. fish with a few 10 lbers that we haven't seen with
any regularity since 2002. Fran Drexler from
Pennsylvania reported catching more 5 lb fish than he
could count. His group of six all reported the same
type of results. Ronnie Wilkins' group of four all
caught fish at rates unheard of for a couple of the
novices in his group. It is just amazing the numbers of
fish from one end to the other at Lake Huites. With our
new private air charter service into Choix, it makes
Huites much more accessible. Although we are sold out
for the remainder of February, we have room Spring Break
week in March and we hope to see you down there!

The
Lodges on both Baccarac
and Huites have
re-opened after being
closed so all the
employees could take a
much needed few days off
for the Holidays; but
wouldn't you know it,
old man winter decided
to head South across the
non-existent border
fence for a few days
about the same time the
Lodges were re-opened and
the weather turned
unusually cool for the
Baccarac-Huites areas;
with high temperatures
only barely making it
into the upper 50's for
a couple of days.
This slowed the action
on the first day back on
the water with a few
boats reporting only 10
or so bass per boat at
Baccarac.
But the second and third
days were "catchin" as
usual, with a couple
over 11 pounds weighed
in on the second day
with at least 75 bass
per boat. So you
see, the angling can
shut down for a short
period of time, even on
one of the hottest lakes
in the world!
We
look for the action to
continue improving with
each passing day as the
actual time of sunlight
and the beginning of
warmer weather has
already started its
yearly cycle once again
in the Northern
Hemisphere and this will
get the bass moving into
their annual pre-spawn
patterns. If you are
lucky enough to be on
the water at Baccarac
before the big females
actually disperse from
their staging areas, you
could truly be in for
some of the most
unbelievable trophy
angling on any lake in
the entire world.
All the guides on
Baccarac are well
trained in this part of
the cycle and know that
the staging of huge
groups of females ripe
with row might only
prevail for a few days,
dependant on weather
conditions before they
actually make their
annual move to the
scattered nests the
smaller males have
prepared for the actual
spawn; so
consequentially, they
are always looking for
these spots everyday
before the actual
spawning ritual takes
place. These staging
areas will always be in
a little deeper water
very close to spawning
flats with good
ditches-arroyos, old
road beds with good
ditches, backs of coves
with good definition in
and out of the area and
suitable shorelines with
deeper water always
nearby.
We
still have a few
available dates at
Baccarac. Call or
e-mail anytime and don't
forget; Huites lake
located some 75 miles to
the north of Baccarac is
also cranking out
super fishing this
season.

Smith/Marsh group
: We
caught lots of quality
fish in the 8 to 13 lb
range. Even with the water
level rising rapidly, we
averaged 35-45 nice fish per
day on various
patterns/lures. We didn't
catch as many fish as we did
on our previous trip, but
the quality was
unbelievable. Most of the
fish we caught were over 5
lbs, and we had
ten to twelve bass between9.8 & 13.2 lbs.
Todd Smith had three fish
over 11 lbs on a popper,
spinnerbait, and fluke. Mike
Bain had 2 fish over 10 lbs,
and Greg Marsh caught the
big fish at 13.2. All eight
guys in our group did very
well. The service and
entertainment was great, and
the improvements to the
lodge are beautiful. Thanks
for another great time south

This just in from Tony Coatney &
Ivan Martin, NE Oklahoma Pro Guides that spend the winter
months guiding on Cuchillo:
Tony reports:
"What can we say about Mexico, except that the weather was
pretty nice till that first cold front blew through."
According to Tony this however helped the fishing by warming
up the water. Not exactly sure what he is trying to
tell us, but where I live a cold front with much colder
temperatures always lowers the water temperatures and moves
the bass tight to cover with a few days of a bad case of
lock jaw.
They report 30 to 70 bass each
day with the first day catching only 1 bass over 4 pounds
that weighed in at 4.9. The next day they had 1 bass over 4
pounds that weighed in at 6.8 with the rest of the bass in
the dink or smaller size range. One of the local
Mexican Guides finally caught an 8 pound bass which was the
largest caught in 5 days of hard fishing by several boats of
anglers.
Not exactly what one would call
Red Hot up to Mexican Standard Bass Angling. It is
reports such as this one that that are the main reason that
I am not recommending Lake Cuchillo as a fishing destination
for this season. The massive Tilapia kill at Lake
Cuchillo last year has really hurt the lake because of the
loss of forage.
As far as yours truly is concerned; Lake Cuchillo is a total
waste of ones time and money and until such time as we start
getting quality reports about better angling we recommend
avoiding Cuchillo at this time. Compare the above
report to the next one listed below from Lake Huites during
the same time frame and tell me where you would rather fish?
**This is a
great report sent in by Neal Ford who just returned from Huites
a few days ago!**
Terry,
We just returned
from another great trip to Lake Huites. This was our best yet.
As usual the accommodations were excellent , the staff was
friendly, and the food was great. We really appreciate the
great work that Narlin does as camp manager, and that Manuel
does as head guide to put you on fish.
Now for the
fishing report… A few disclaimers: I admit, I have read through
some of these reports thinking ‘that can’t be true’. Let me
assure you it is. The fishing is so good here; there is no need
for exaggerated fish stories! We use tally counters to make
sure we keep an accurate count and typically weigh every fish
over 5 pounds, as we have friendly bets going among our group.
There were four
of us. We had the lake all to ourselves, and our understanding
was that it had not been fished in a few weeks. It had rained
for three straight days before we arrived, so the lake was
pretty muddy. Our first day, both boats in our group caught 101
and 102 (a slow day by Huites standards). You can get spoiled
pretty quick fishing in Mexico. We caught some good fish, but
50 - 60% were less than a pound (dinks). We were a little
worried that it was going to be a slow bite throughout the
trip.
The next day the
fishing picked up to about 150 per boat. The highlight of this
day was when we had a great topwater bite in the middle of the
day. We had about an hour stretch where we pulled in a bunch of
3 to 6 pounders on chrome chugbugs. They would only hit it
standing still on a slow retrieve, but they were killing it! My
brother-in-law and me caught back to back 6 ½ pounders. Mine
exploded on the bait like a peacock bass, and his jumped
completely out of the water and came down on top of the bait. I
have never seen anything like it. Other than that exciting run,
the topwater bite was slow.
The next day we
were determined to find the big ones. One of the boats decided
to only fish deep holes (20 to 30 feet). Those are hard to find
without a graph, but these guides know the lake so well it
doesn’t take long to find the “honey holes”. On the 3rd day,
the size of fish increased dramatically. We did another 150 per
boat with hardly any dinks caught. A ¾ ounce, white spinner
bait is what did the trick. We were working up one bank where I
caught four, 5 pounders in a row. They absolutely mangled the
spinner bait, so bring plenty of extras.
Our last day of fishing, I will
never forget. We continued on the pattern of fishing deep holes
with swim baits, lizards, and spinner baits. We had a good
morning of fishing, and we were looking forward to a lunch on
the lake shore. We had about two hours to kill before lunch, so
we decided to get out of the sun and fish up one of the
canyons. We were pitching towards the banks with senkos
catching dinks, but meanwhile my brother-in-law was still
working in 30 feet of water fishing a spinner bait on the bottom
like a worm. All of the sudden, I hear him yell out “NEW HONEY
HOLE!” We proceeded to catch 3-6 pounders on just about every
cast for the next 2 hours. My dad caught 48 fish on
48 casts, and that was before he started counting.
We were fishing 5” storm swim baits (bunker color). Cast it
out, let it go to the bottom, start reeling and you had one on.
We caught fish up to 8 and ½ pounds in that spot. My
father-in-law was casting a swim bait that was so chewed up, it
was basically a hook and weight, and he was still pulling in
fish on nearly every cast.
We then had our lunch on the
shore with an incredible view of a waterfall off in the
mountains. Fresh fish and hand cut fries. What a great time.
The staff really made my dad feel special on his birthday. The
fish sure cooperated too! We went back to the same spot and for
3 hours, literally caught one on every cast until it was time to
head back for camp. One boat ended up with 276 for
the day, and the other boat was not far behind that number.
The hot baits
were 5” Storm swim baits (bunker); ¾ ounce white spinner baits;
watermelon and pumpkin seed lizards; watermelon candy Flukes,
Senkos; tequila and junebug worms; and chrome chugbugs.

Overall,
fishing as
been very
good to
excellent
with some

excellent
and some
days a
little
slower with
active bass
a little
harder to
find, but I
have found
this to
always be
true on any
lake with a
huge forage
base such as
Baccarac.
The Bass
population
has an easy
time finding
a meal so
consequentially
they do not
have to
forage as
often!
Numbers have
been
averaging
from 40 to
over a 100
bass per
boat each
day with a
lot more BIG
heavy fish
this season
and our
catch &
release
program is
really
paying off
as the bass
are growing
at
incredible
rates with
all the
forage
available
and we look
for a few
bass in the
20 pound
class to be
hooked this
season!

I just returned

Baccarac. We had
a great trip and
fished with a
truly excellent

He was a lot of
fun, was very
patient with
Brett, and
seemed to enjoy
having him in
the boat and
teaching him a
lot about
Mexican Bass
fishing. We
averaged 45 fish
per day and saw
many very large
fish. My biggest
was 12 and
Brett's was 7.
Enrique hooked
an 8 for him to

was pretty cool.

charter makes this a very easy trip! The
lake was just full of all sizes of fish. Our
biggest was 11.13 and I estimate we caught 100
fish over 6 pounds in our 3 days on the water
and always caught over 130 a day for each of our
3 boats. Using a Jr Spook in Bone color was the
best topwater. 4 inch swimbaits by Storm where
used near the La Mission area of the Lake. When
Can I come back?
Don Bodgen report:
" We are rebooking right now " That should say it all. Don reports lots of
small fish but also lots of very nice fish up to
9 pounds being on topwater up the river near the
church. Tacopaco and the river area near the
church is where they found the best action
producing sometimes up to 200 bass per day per
boat
Report from
Jesse Cox group:
Total
of 1629 fish caught in 3 days of fishing. Out of our
3 boats we averaged 181 per day. We had 320 bass
over 5 pounds, 60 bass over 6 pounds and 55 bass
over 8 pounds for our group. Topwater was excellent.
Everything was excellent at the Lodge. Narlin, the
Huites Lodge manager is an excellent host!!
Report from Mike Price group:
We
flew in and landed at Choix using your private
charter, truly the only way to go. Will not ever do
it any other way again. Our trip started out
excellent and only got better.
Fishing
with Manual again was a real treat. The hottest
action on the Lake was near the dam both topwater
action and 6 inch pumpkin Lizards produced the best
size and numbers. I actually caught 23 fish over 9
pounds and 41 over 8 pounds in 3 days of fishing. I
did not count total fish per day but it was always
over 150 per day and maybe over 200 per day. The
lake is in great shape and I highly recommend the
trip.

solid 6 to 9 pound bass reported. Several larger
bass reported to have been on but not landed. The
best fishing was near the Dam and Tacopaco....That's
right!!! Great Topwater!!! Huites is currently
outstanding
Food,
service, guides and accommodations excellent as always.
Our group of 5 caught on average 25 to 50 fish per day
with the majority in the 4 to 5 pound range. Chapo Ulm
caught the majority of the large fish with 4 over 10
pounds and several in the 6 to 8 pound range
predominantly on topwater and 6” pearl swimbaits. Mike
Powers nailed a fat 10.9 with a pearl fluke. Matt
Brewer’s large was an 8 with several in the 5 to 6 pound
range. Joe Copeland worked on landing the grande but
had to settle on a 7.1. Derek Krider had several in the
5 to 6 pound range and one 7.2. Each of us lost at
least one large fish well into the double digit range.
After polling several groups of anglers at the lodge,
most large fish are being caught on 6” pearl swimbaits,
1 oz. rattle traps, topwater baits, 1 oz. spinner baits
and large crankbaits. The lake dropped about 4 feet in
the 3 days we fished. We are looking forward to
returning in March.
Topwater fishing was the most
spectacular I have ever seen and it is only starting to
heat up. Make sure to change out any
small treble hooks with larger ones on your topwater
baits as the grandes will pull free; I missed three
lunkers on topwater before swapping out with crankbait
hooks.

I am a
serious bass fisherman and I've been fishing in
the north west US for 20+ years. My bass fishing
goal has always been to catch the 'elusive' + 10
pounder. While on this trip, I exceeded that
goal - more then I ever imagined. I still can't
believe it - but I caught a 10.4, 10.6, 10.14,
10.11, 11, 11.4, 11.14 and a 12.2!!! I know some
people might doubt these weights, but the photos
are my proof and they are hanging on Russ'
lunker board in the tackle shop at the lodge.
Most of the fish were
suspended in 17 to 35 feet of water. We caught
them on pearl swim baits and fat free citrus
shad cranks. As our fishing days went on, the
fish started moving to the banks and we were
able to catch some 7's and 8's and one 10
pounder on top water super spooks.
We didn't catch a
huge # of fish. We averaged 25 to 35 fish a day.
But when you got a bite, it was a BIG one. We
had 21 seven pounders, 17 eight pounders, 15
nine pounders, 5 fish in the 10 pound range, 4
fish over 11 pounds and the one 12 pounder! All
I can say is you have a little piece of bass
fishing heaven there!
Thanks again for a
fabulous trip! I hope to see you again SOON!

crankbait action in the Canyons. Near
the dam the topwater action on the long

great....Tons of quality bass being
caught all over the lake .
Make sure to read the
report posted below on the 16th of October.
Day one (yesterday)
of the Bill Hicks Group (24 anglers
from Hobbs New Mexico)
The over all numbers of
fish caught per boat were way down (some boats
only recording 15 fish ) ...But the size was
not. With 24 anglers on the water a total of
16 bass over 10 pounds
were recorded ranging from 10.3 to 14.1.
Russ Johnson, resident pro was also on the water
and reported 2 fish over 10 and breaking off on
one that was a giant. Russ has been fishing the
deeper structure on the south end of the Lake
while Rene has been concentrating most of his fishing up the river.
Most all
the larger Trophy fish are coming from deeper
water on swimbaits and slow rolling 1 oz
spinnerbaits on the bottom. So far the topwater
bite has not materialized like last season
during this time frame.........But hopefully,
any day now the bass will move up a little in
the water column and start blasting those big
chug-bugs! We'll be posting more reports
the first of next week. Have a great
weekend and get your reservations firmed up
today!
Mike Bradshaw's group of 6 in 4 days of

Mike himself catching 11 of the total.
Wally C a fireman from Az yesterday caught 6

LAKE CUCHILLO
FISHING
REPORT
October 5th October 12th 2007
'As many
of you know, I have promoted Lake
Cuchillo as one of the better lakes in
Mexico for the past several years and
have helped 1,000's of anglers have great
Mexican Adventures at this lake.
However, I have been receiving reports
over the past many months that the
angling has slowly gone from excellent
to some of the worst in the entire
country of Mexico.
I received
a phone call yesterday from one of my
best customers about a trip to Cuchillo
he and 3 of his fishing partners had
just made this past week; arriving early
on October 5th and fishing the lake
"hard" for the next 5 days. And,
I'm not talking about your average bass
angler, as these guys are as good as
they get and are among the top bass
anglers in all the USA. They drove
in with their own boats and have been
fishing Cuchillo several times a year
for the past 4 or 5 years, so they know
the lake and all the right places to
fish.
Their
fishing report is one of the worst I
have ever received about a Mexican Lake
and I was almost reluctant to post it;
but I feel an obligation to all my good,
loyal customers to tell them about the
poor quality of the angling at Cuchillo
at this time, so they will not waste
time, effort and money at this Lake this
next season. Now listen up as this
report is as bad as it gets! For
starters, the largest bass caught in
five days of angling by some of the best
anglers in the USA was a long unhealthy
five (5) pound bass. They also
reported two (2) other bass in the 4
pound class in the same poor condition
and they only averaged 35 bass per day
per boat and these were all one (1)
pound or less in size except for the 3
bass I mentioned above and this was over
a 5 day period of daylight to dark damn
hard fishing by some of best anglers I know., I
This group
did manage to salvage their trip by
driving up to Sugar Lake on their last
day. Even though they had never
fished Sugar Lake, they managed to catch
1 bass that weighed in at 10.8 and
another over 7 pounds with numerous fat,
healthy bass in the 3-6 pound class.
not
Needless
to say, these guys will not be making
another trip to Lake Cuchillo in the
near future.
There are
a myriad of reasons why Lake Cuchillo
has declined into such a poor fishery
which I will discuss in detail on a
future blog.
However,
let me make it very clear that Mexican
Lakes Adventures is no longer
recommending or offering package trips
to Lake Cuchillo of any kind at the
present time due to the poor quality of
angling.
I am
presently recommending Lake Guerrero or
Sugar Lake for Northern Mexico as the 2
best destinations.
Feel
free to call me anytime for further
details.

6 sevens; 8
fives; and 3
fours. About 50
bass.
For the three
day trip, the
SOBs had 39 fish
over eight
pounds with 12 fish
over ten pounds.
They caught at
least one ten
pounder in each
of the six half
day outings.
Cranks and
swimbaits caught
most of the
nines and tens,
with a few on
big spinner
baits. No large
bass were caught
on topwaters,
and the SOBs
abandoned them
after the first
morning to focus
on larger fish.
Only a few bass
were caught on
sinkos and
lizards. Most
of the larger
bass were caught
on flats (20
feet plus or
minus) next to
deeper water,
both in the main
lake and up the
river channel.
A few good fish
were caught on
points, but they
were usually the
smaller four to
seven pounders.
The ratio of big
bass (over four
pounds) caught
to total bass
caught was
incredible (30%,
50% and 60% for
the three
days). As the
days passed, the
group was
undoubtedly
fishing more for
larger bass and
passing up top
waters,
plastics, etc.
The six, seven,
and eight pound
bass were
extremely hard
fighters,
usually more
than the ten
pounders. A
large number of
big fish were
hooked and lost,
usually if an
SOB couldn’t
keep them from
jumping or
didn’t get a
good hook set!
The weather was
hot and humid,
which made the
beer and
margaritas taste
even better.
The lake was
smooth and the
boats were
trouble-free.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a
wonderful trip we had to Lake
Baccarac Lodge. Terry,
Rene and all the staff just keep
making this trip better and
better.
The food
was exceptional and the service
was the same. Of course
all of us are there for the
fishing and this trip was the
best fishing that I have
ever
had!!!!!!!!!! We only keep
up with the big fish this time
and here is the count: 18 fish
between 8 and 9lbs, 9 fish
between 9 and 10lbs, 1 10.4
fish, 1 10.8 fish, and 1 13.1lb
fish. The report from the
lake said that I caught a 13.4
and Tina Gilcrease the 13.1 but
the reverse was the actual
truth!!!! Can you imagine that a
gal that has only been fishing
for bass seriously about 2 years
beat me with that 13.4!!!!! But
she did. At one place we fished
for about 2 1/2 hours and caught
many fish the smallest was over
6lbs!!!!!!!! I just have
never seen such a huge % of the
fish caught running over 6 lbs.
Well I can't wait to get back
for my next trip which is
Oct 15.
By the way they told us there
was no topwater bite yet but we
averaged 22 on top every morning
early and the 10.8 was one of
them.
Yesterday morning we lost at
least 4 fish over 10 lbs on top
and got 2 over 8 and one over 9
in the boat. I guess it is
pretty obvious that I am pretty
pumped up about Baccarac and
Terry's lodge.
Big Rains at the Lake this week
with the Lake rising about 4 feet the fishing remained
good but did slow down compared to last week. Fish up to
9 pounds being caught using 6 inch pearl swimbaits.
The topwater action is picking up with 1 fish over 10
being caught usingZara Spooks the ole
watermelon Lizzard producing lots of action up the
river.
This just in!
Gary Whitehead caught 13.4 using chrome/blue
rattletraps...Tina Gilcrease caught a 13.1 and Ricky
Gilcrease 10.00 .. Rattletrap fishing was good this
morning....
It's official - we are now
open and on the water. What a way to start!
Opening afternoon, Russ Johnson caught an 11.2 in Norte
Canyon. All boats reported excellent fishing. Today,
September 27, was a special day for the Bobby Knight
group. Ross Jones caught an 11.5 and a 9.9. Also, he
caught 30 fish between 7 and 8 lbs. Tim Knight landed an
11.12 and a 10.4. He reported that he caught more fish
today than at all his previous trips
combined to El Salto. Pat Knight's big fish of the day
was a 10.2. Randy Farley caught a 10.2, a 10.0 and six
fish over 8 lbs. Chris Cassidy caught an 11.2 and
reported excellent, excellent fishing. Coach Knight
didn't break the 10 lb. mark today, but we are confident
he will tomorrow!
Sept 28th
fishing:
As a group the Knight group caught 8 more fish over 10
pounds. Tim Knight found one spot where he caught 23
bass over 6 pounds and 8 over 9 pounds
Crankbaits, rattletraps

We are normally closed during the rainy season but this
season we have had a couple of groups. I just returned
from the Lodge with a group of 4 Amigos from Texas. Big,
Big rains and Lake Baccarac is coming up very
nicely . The fishing could not have been any better with
the fish very shallow because of the rising water.
Crazy Joe Dillard fished with me the first day and
caught a 16.1 whose picture is already posted at the
Lodge. The monster fish was caught in Sonny's cove in
very shallow water. During the heavy, heavy rain the
fish feed on the surface. Tom Secrest caught a 15.2
fishing with Juan in the same cove. Dalton caught 4 fish
over 9 near the Dam and Dee caught one over 10 and one
over 11. These fish where caught the first day at the
Lodge during the rain. The second day was also very good
with tons of big fish. I rate the fishing right now as
excellent. We are working hard getting the Lodge ready
for the regular season kick off.

The private flight arrange for our group was first class

first 10 minutes I caught a 15.6 that’s right a fish

Using nothing but crankbaits I caught 4 more fish over
13 pounds. Our group of 7 anglers all had similar
results using everything from crankbaits to big
spinnerbaits and big jigs. Just an unreal trip. Over the
next 1 ½ days we caught all classes of fish Huge to
small. The lake is alive with the best and toughest bass
I have ever seen. I WILL BE BACK

Passports are proposed to be required by all
those individuals traveling by automobile to
re-enter the USA from Mexico starting in January
2008; however, due to the huge backlog for
passports, it is still unclear about this
requirement date and this requirement has
tentatively been changed. It is this
writers opinion after extensive research that a
valid birth certificate and drivers license will
still work and that Passports will not be
required for several more years for those
traveling by vehicle. Please be aware that
a Valid Passport is a requirement if re-entering
the USA by air, however, this rule has even been
temporarily relaxed and a birth certificate with
other valid ID will still suffice for the
present because your friendly State Department
was totally unprepared for the deluge of
applications that have been received over the
past 12 months. It will be at least another
year or more before the Passport issue for
those traveling to Mexico is finally resolved.
However, this writer "sez" play it smart and go
ahead and purchase your Passport. It only takes
a few minutes to take the 2-photos and complete
the necessary forms and you can be assured that
at some point in the future a valid passport
will be required!
Costs will vary
depending on the type service-delivery time you
require; but be prepared to spend $100.00 plus
dollars which will include shipping-Fed-Ex and
State Department processing fees.
We highly
recommend that all anglers contemplating a trip
south of the border next year apply now.
American Passports are and accepted form
of positive Identification around the world and
are valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
