Another Great Fishing Season Anticipated
at most Mexican Lakes!
3-20-04
If planning to drive into
Mexico and pulling your own boat; it is imperative that you have
all your paper work in proper order. I have had numerous
very disappointed customers over the past several months that
have been denied entry into the country because they failed to
make the proper preparations before departing on their trip.
I have the most current and detailed instructions for entry
requirements on the Internet and you should read this page on my
website very carefully before making your trip:
http://www.mexicanlakes.com/Visiting_Mexico.htm
By the way, it is still very
easy to obtain Tourist and Vehicle-Boat Permits; however the
days of just showing up at the border and driving across after
leaving a few dollars with the official in charge are gone
forever. By following a few VERY SIMPLE RULES; one can
enter Mexico with no hassles what so ever! Take my advise
and make certain you follow all the rules that are now strictly
enforced at the Mexican Border!
I
ALWAYS SUPPLY very detailed and current border
crossing information with great route maps with every
booking or reservation that is made with Mexican Lakes
Adventures! Call me today and discover the real
difference! We offer the best service in Mexico!

Lake Cuchillo officials have
implemented a strict catch and release rule for the months of
March and April to help insure the best possible spawn and
recruitment for this new Mexican Jewel! If you are
planning a drive down trip, remember that Mexican Boat & Fishing
Permits are required at all Mexican fresh water lakes. We
have all permits "In Stock."

If you are
planning a drive-in trip with your boat this winter, here's
some valuable advise for making certain that you have a great
trip. As many of you know, all Mexican Lakes on both coasts in
the Northern half of the country have an occasional strong Artic
Cold Front that drifts that far South. Many of these lakes can
quickly become very dangerous with the accompanying High Winds that
can quickly whip up mountainous swells on some of the flat land
reservoirs. Be sure and carry a few extra warm clothes and
canned goods in your boat just in case you are caught on the lake
miles from the area where you are staying and have to spend a night
in a more sheltered area awaiting calmer conditions. Many of
the Lodges-Haciendas have satellite TV with the weather channel for
monitoring forecasts and the new Hacienda Don Carlos located on
Presa Cuchillo posts 4 day weather forecasts in the main lobby
in both Spanish & English. A little prudence on the water
and pre-planning can help assure that you have the very best Mexican
Adventure possible. Call us today for the most current and up
to date info about Mexican Lakes that is available.

Most lakes on both Mexican coasts
have had beneficial rainfall this summer and lake levels have risen
to at least the levels they were at this time last year and most are
in good shape for the beginning of the new season.
Here's a good tip for all you
anglers that like to fish a crankbait, but are a little reluctant to
do so in some of the heavy cover one encounters at many Mexican
Lakes. Spooling up some 80# Spider Line can solve even the
most challenging lure retrieval scenario's. I just returned
from 8 full days on the water at new Lake Cuchillo and the wood
cover is absolutely as heavy as it gets in many areas of this
lake. After losing several of my favorite cranks to some of
that tougher than tough Huizache cover using my favorite 20# Mono, I
finally spooled up some 80# line after a great tip from Chuy Morales
and lost very few baits the rest of the trip. In fact, one of
the things one had to watch for by being able to pull the bait free
so easily, is that the attaching snap-tie ring can be distorted to the
point of causing the lure to no longer run true or the ring can
actually be
completely straightened out causing the lure to be lost
without breaking the line. If you really get one buried up and
can't seem to work it out, the new "Go-Get-It" lure retriever
sold by Parey Products (270-384-7865) www.mygogetit.com
is the best I've used in more
than 35 years of fishing a crankbait in heavy cover. This
retriever flat works, is easy and efficient to use and it is my understanding they are
presently making improvements
to make it even tougher than it is now>>>>>Lake
Cuchillo is presently at full pool elevation and the fishing is
excellent. The new Hacienda is open and offers one of the
finest Mexican accommodations on any Mexican Lake. For

HOT
POST-SPAWN ACTION
All the Lakes up and down the West
Coast of Mexico are at very low elevations at the present time and
all major water release for irrigational use has been terminated for
this season. This means all the West coast lakes are
quickly stabilizing with a very predictable post-spawn pattern
developing with some of the hottest action and angling of the
season, that is, if one does not mind fishing in the warmer weather
conditions to be found at most West coast lakes in May &
June. One exception to this warm weather pattern is Lake Milpa
located in the State of Nayarit about 45 miles from the city of
Tepic. Milpa has been closed to all sport angling since March
and will be re-opened June 1st. With it's location in the
higher altitudes of the Sierra's, the weather is quite pleasant
during the months of June and July, with cool nights and the angling
has really turned on this season with reports of 50-100 bass
per day not uncommon, with many quality bass caught each day.
Milpa should be on everyone's list for a trip in the next 12 months
as well as Lake Cuchillo in the State of Nuevo Leon. I look
for Cuchillo to produce world class bass angling over the next 12
months with the lake stabilizing at near pool elevations with
a very healthy bass and forage population. Please give us a
call for more up to date information, pricing and reservations!
