About Lake Huites Lodge...

For more than four decades, Mexico has been a popular destination for American bass anglers in search of the world's best bass angling!   Unfortunately, many of the fabled MMexicoHuitesBassexican bass fisheries no longer live up to their once legendary reputations and many of these fisheries have steadily declined as a result of unforeseen drought conditions, high irrigation-electric generation demands and flagrant over harvesting of the once plentiful resource by commercial and sport anglers alike!  In the last 10 years however, one lake has emerged that is helping to restore the mystique and prominence of Mexican bass angling once again. At the present time, one of the hottest bass lake in the world might  just be Lake Huites, located some three hours from the costal city of Los Mochis, Sinaloa. When at full pool elevation, Lake Huites is a 25,000-acre reservoir that has been stocked extensively with Florida strain largemouth bass. These bass have taken a liking to the mountainous climate and the protein-rich diet of tilapia and shad and are growing at rapid rates. When weather conditions are right, visiting anglers are catching in excess of 100 bass a day and 10-pound plus trophies are being caught with increasing regularity. The local guides have an intimate knowledge of this deep, clear lake and will take you to prime structures that concentrate Huites' fantastic bass population. Lake Huites Lodge is considered to be the lodge by which all other lake lodges are judged in terms of comfort, cleanliness, cuisine and service.

Travel Logistics* to Lake Huites Lodge:

We now offer non-stop flights from DFW and other major hubs directly into Los Cabos located on the tip of the Baja Peninsula.  From Cabos you are then flown directly into El Fuerte, Sinaloa by charter flight for the 1-1/2 hour drive to the Lodge. This new routing provides much cheaper roundtrip airfares, better connection time frames and also cuts drive time to the Lodges in half. One can still however fly into Tucson, Arizona and then take the Aero California flight to Los Mochis.  Upon arrival in Los Mochis, anglers will be greeted and transported the 3-1/2 hour ride to the lodge. Our in-house travel agency can assist you with your travel needs and questions for flights into Los Mochis or Los Cabos. We also now offer extended packages with a few days of salt water angling in the Los Cabos area too, as will as trips on the world famous Copper Canyon Train Tour for those non-angling members in your group wishing to enjoy one of the most spectacular scenic journey-adventures to be found in North America.

*For those that would prefer a more direct route to the lodge, we can arrange private air charters upon request from several U.S. cities. These flights arrive in the small town of El Fuerte or new airstrip located in Choix.  Please inquire for more information.

Predominant Language at Lake Huites Lodge:
Spanish is the National Language of Mexico. Some of the guides do speak a few words of English. However, there typically are no problems in communicating with the guides as they understand bass angling and many of the American phrases. It is always wise, when undertaking a trip of this nature, to learn a few simple Spanish phrases and words. Check our Spanish Dictionary Page for a handy English-Spanish translation list of the most common fishing related phrases and words you need to know.  Be sure and print a copy or two to take with you.  You and your guide both will be glad you have a copy while on the water!  There will always be an English speaking host or manager at the Lodge.

Special Requirements to enter Mexico:
A valid passport or certified (raised seal) copy of your birth certificate accompanied with a valid driver's license is all that's required to enter Mexico.

Lake Huites Lodge Accommodations:

Two anglers will share a room complete with air conditioner, private bathroom and filtered water. Each room overlooks the lake and daily maid service is always provided.

Meals at Lake Huites Lodge:
The cooking staff will provide a tasty and ample array of dishes for visiting anglers to include steaks and fresh fish. One evening meal will be highlighted with and elaborate Mexican Fiesta-Dinner!  Freshly made chips and salsa, along with frosty cold margaritas or your favorite cervaza, are always on hand to hold you over until dinner and lunch are served each day. You are always greeted with room service bright and early each morning  with freshly brewed coffee or beverage of your choice.

Fishing at Lake Huites:

While it is true that the most experienced anglers return each day with reports of phenomenal catches, even novice anglers quickly learn the ways of Huites bass and land them in numbers that they could never attain in the US. Typically, the early morning hours offer fantastic top water action. Historically, the best baits have been Pop-R's, Zara Spooks and buzz baits. This is dependent on the moon phase, however, as well as time of the year. As the sun rises overhead, switch to a deeper approach using spinnerbaits, worms and crankbaits. For some reason, Huites' largemouths, especially lunker-sized ones, are attracted to the large sized Fat Free Shad crankbait. Cast these crankbaits to points, canyon walls, humps and submerged brush as you prospect for the large schools which are commonplace on Huites. Find the right structure and you might land 30 fish in 35 casts, averaging in excess of three pounds. For real trophy bass action, look towards deep water for the lunker of your dreams using these big crankbaits and large worms. This lake is also an undiscovered fly angler's paradise. Flip Pallot recently filmed his popular Walker's Cay Chronicles ESPN series from Huites and called his upcoming show "the greatest fly fishing action for bass that he's ever encountered." Popping flies worked around shallow cover took a tremendous number of fish. Two anglers share the boat with an experienced guide. Although they speak little, if any English, they do know prime areas to fish and are eager for you to have the fishing trip of a lifetime. The boats are roomy and offer swivel seats, trolling motors and outboards.

Activities for the Non-Angler at Lake Huites Lodge:
Lake Huites Lodge is first and foremost a fishing lodge. However, they also offer an excursion train trip across the Sierra's on the world famous Copper Canyon Train. Check with us for further details about this and other  activities in the area for non-anglers.

Packing for Lake Huites Lodge:
Upon receipt of deposits, you will be sent a detailed packing list and other literature to help prepare you for your bass fishing trip.

Weather at Lake Huites Lodge:
The weather conditions are dependent upon the season you visit Lake Huites. The evening and morning hours are generally quite pleasant because of the cool crisp mountain air in the Sierra Madres. A light jacket is a necessity during these times. As the day progresses, it typically warms to between 70 and 95 degrees (depending on what month you visit the lake). Occasional showers do occur, so a rain-suit is a must.

Lake Huites Travel Itinerary:
