from the Lodge over the last 3 days Skip and Rick Fischer have
once again found the best patterns for the monster BASS. Fishing
near the dam in 25ft of water off the main lake points and big
drop offs. Friday the 3rd of Oct Skip and Rick landed 40 fish
between 8 and 9.9 pounds using 12 and 14 inch worms.

Wrote...What
a difference a few months makes! If you read Rene's report posted
below, you can see that with the rising water and the lake being
at levels it hasn't seen in 18 months, all of the fish, including
the big ones, have moved shallow. Last season, we caught several
10+ lb. fish, but it seemed like they were all in 35 to 40 feet of
water. Now Rene reports and our most recent group reports 100+
fish days with very healthy fish and fish up to 11 lbs. caught.
This has always been a typical fall pattern, but this year, we're
very glad to see it, considering some of the tough fishing we
experienced at times last season. Something of note is we have now
joined forces with Lowrance, equipping each one of our boats with
some of the very finest electronics available. Also this year, in
addition to our fine fleet of 18-foot boats, we now have available
Skeeter 19 1/2 foot boats with 150hp Yamahas. Rene continues to
work hard to assure that Lake Huites Lodge is the premier bass
fishing operation in Mexico. Hope to see at the Lodge soon. Terry

Just
in from Rene Salazar:
We just returned from Lake
Huites and fished all morning. We caught several fish between 6
and 10 pounds using medium running crankbaits and dark worms. The
Lake has come up about a total of 40 ft since it's lowest level of
a few weeks ago. Schooling bass are all over the Lake - off the
Main lake points and in front of the coves. Fishing around the
Mesa Colorado is the most productive we have seen in 2
years. Hope to see at the Lodge soon!! Rene'

Ricky Hocutt from
Caledonia, Mississippi writes:
Just got back from our third great trip to Lake
Huites. We had 3 people fishing out of one boat and spent 5 full days fishing from 5-11-03 to 5-16-03. The Lake
Huites Lodge accommodations were very comfortable. Rene
Salazar and
his staff were very helpful in making our trip a success. He
had all the gas and ice we needed waiting at the boat every
morning at a very reasonable price. The fishing was great
also. We caught and released 656 fish, 23 of these were over
4 lbs. Our three largest were 5.8, 7.0, and 7.5 lbs.
We used a variety of fishing patterns to catch them. Slow
rolling spinnerbaits in submerged tree tops in 15 to 25 feet of
water on some points worked well for the larger fish.
Carolina-rigged flukes brought some large fish in on the main lake
points that were clean. Also used Texas-rigged worms with
3/8 oz weights to catch some good fish in the 15 to 25 foot range
on both main lake points and along the deep canyon walls. In
low light conditions, a split-shot fluke fished in the tree-tops
along the bank also got some large fish to come up out of the tree
tops including our largest fish. Because of the low water
level, fish were congregated at the backs of just about every
tributary. The fish that were up in the backs of the
tributaries were forced to come back to the nearest deep water
where they could be caught in great numbers on rattle traps
although they tended to be in the 1 to 1.5 lb range.
Rattle-trapping the backs of the tributaries worked well for
numbers, but for the larger fish, we had to work the deep points,
drop-offs, and submerged tree-tops. We are looking forward to
making our next trip to Lake Huites.
5-8-03
Fished May 5, 6, and 7. Targeted larger fish and
still caught good numbers. 194 in 3 days. we caught 1 - 10, 1- 9,
5 - 8's and 75 to 100 (we lost count) 5-8lbs. senkos on vertical
walls in the morning and swim baits fished off wind blown points
and humps. also caught some fish on spinnerbaits, 10 inch worms,
rattletraps, and bd fat free shad. No topwater bite at all. Color
did not seem to be a big factor although the last day they would
not touch chartreuse. If you want #'s go up into canyons and
you'll catch more 1-3 lber's than you can imagine. service at the
lodge was terrific, food was excellent and our guide was topnotch.
Overall would recommend this trip wholeheartedly to anyone. Hope
to be back soon. the only bad thing was that we only booked for
three days. Next time will book for 5. thanks to all the staff for
a truly memorable trip.
5-3-03
Incredible. The swim bait prevailed and the bite
was unbelievable. Not much topwater action morning or evening but
the number of big bass caught was unreal. We were actually
disappointed to be hooking into 5 pounders. The big fish was only
10.5( 24-17, plugged into the formula, you do the math) but the
number of 6,7, 8 and 9's was unbelievable. This was truly a trip
of a lifetime. That was just the first day. The morning of the
second day was started with each catching a seven lber. as our
first fish on the first few casts and it just kept going. The
third day was slow until the evening when the big fish bite
started at 6:00 and we finished with good numbers of 5's and 6's.
The first day we each caught 20+ fish 5 to 9 lbs. We did fish for
big fish in deep water off main lake points and weren't concerned
with beating the brush. Huites is the undisputed number one
largemouth bass lake in the world.

Wrote...While
filming today with Terry Wickstrom and crew, we had one of the
best mornings this year. Caught on camera while fishing a Little
George off the points up near Las Junias, three 11 lb. fish were
caught, the biggest being 11.14. In addition, we had three fish
over 8 lbs. caught in 15 feet of water near Tacopaco. Pumpkin
lizards also did very well.
Wrote...Better
late than never, The average size fish has increased over the last
couple of weeks with several hundred fish caught by our guests in
the 5 to 6 pound range and with fish up to 9 pounds caught using
9" Gary Yamamoto Black-Blue Grub. Chartreuse/pepper Lizards
also out performing all other colored lizards and worms. Early
morning there was plenty of topwater action with this last group.
Pop'rs working best in the early and SPooks working best in the
afternoon. This last week was one the best weeks of fishing we
have seen in sometime. The water is clear to slighty stained with
the temp around 75 degrees. Rene has thrown a big Bill Dance
around the humps and has picked up good numbers of fish between 8
and 9 pounds. See you at the Lodge Russo

Duggins reports that fishing was excellent with many, many 5 to 6
pound bass with a couple in the 10 pound range. The bigger fish
still deep but the topwater fishing produced some excellent
results and also using small rattletraps. Out on the points using
the Bigger Bill Dance crankbaits caught fish in 15 foot of water.
Watermelon and Chartreuse Lizards 6" Texas rigged worked as
the ole stand-bye.
Wrote...Rene
Salazar Fishing is currently excellent with large numbers of 5 to
7 pound fish caught using all kinds of lures and fishing various
patterns. Several clients caught fish over 8 pounds using the Bill
Dance deep running crankbait. One of the boats only caught 35 fish
today with others catching near 90. Fishing Texas rigged Lizards (
Mad-Man Watermelon/pearl lizard ) did well in 18ft of water near
white rock. The water temp is now near 75 degrees and the fish are
very active, rattletraps are doing well. Hasta Luego!

good time was had by all. We really did have a great time. Travel
is never easy and we were an hour late getting there at 1 1/2 late
getting home. Staff was top notch, fishing was good just hogs
without eggs. We caught at least 3 fish that would have scared
double digits if full of roe and pre-pawn feed up but they were
all healthy. Excellent scenery - Most all fish caught using
Lizards and Flukes. The big Crankbaits also worked excellent
Thanks for the tip on Manuel and Jesus, I think the smiles may be
gone by now but they seemed pleased and my son David solidly
kicked my ass (with Manuel's help). There was a man and his wife
that did well but other than them, I think we had the biggest bag
each day. Solid fishing, good hospitality. We'll be back.
Wrote...Wonderful time, First class Lodge and staff. The guides
very well trained. Never have caught so many hogs or so many fish
in my life and they told me it was slow....What happens when it
really picks up. Topwater worked excellent in the morning with
many fish up to 6 pounds caught. Large crankbaits ( Bill Dance )
thrown in the creek channels produced fish everyday. Some places
on the Lake you could catch fish on every cast. Fish to 8 pounds
caught using June Bug Lizards. Overall Excellent trip

RECENT
REPORTS FROM HUITES LODGE
Hello
Cheryl,
We had
a wonderful time. The fishing was awesome. We caught lots of
fish, as well as, some large ones. Our biggest bass was
9-1/2 pounds. We will probably go again next year. As soon
as we can make some definite plans, we will let you know.
We
will book with you again for next year but hopefully there will
be six of us. We have several friends who have been
wanting to fish Lake Huites.
Hi
Terry,
Had a great time and did catch a 10.4 as well as 2or 3
8"s. Caught over 250 fish in the three days. Only problem
was our guide did not speak any English( no problem as I am
fluent in Spanish) and hardly any Spanish (maybe he was shy?).
The Lodge was great, the entire staff was wonderful, and I am
looking forward to my next trip.

After fishing out of a different lodge a couple of months
back I can definitely say I will never go anywhere but
lake Huites lodge. The staff was second to none. The
lodge, food, guides, were all top notch. The fishing was
just a bonus. I fished with my brother for 3 days. He has
never bass fished before and I am definitely not a pro. We
caught over 200 bass in the 3 days. That is fish IN the
boat. We had probably 15-20 fish between 5-7 lbs. The rest
were 1-4lbs. Also took my uncle and a friend, they killed
them. One afternoon they caught 35 over 5lbs. We talked to
some guys on the way home at the airport that fished a
different lodge the same days we were there. They didn't
do nearly as well as we did. If you want an unforgettable
trip, definitely go to to lake Huites lodge. The staff
takes care of you like nothing you have ever seen. John |

Lake Huites Lodge Fishing Report:
Huites is turning RED HOT with great action!!!
Clay Bowen and Richard Mercer caught over 50 bass one
afternoon, all in excess of 5 lbs. throwing a black and blue jig
with no trailer. White medium-running crank baits used by Randy
Baehre and David Carruth produced over 70 fish one afternoon
between 4 and 7 lbs. Watermelon seed lizards on the bank are also
good for numbers of fish. Topwater late evening using Pop’rs and
the Highroller Rolling Chug's has produced excellent results.

Lake
Huites continues to slowly rise in elevation from recent
winter rains across the huge Sierra Madre watershed.
However, with the lake now only a few meters above it lowest point
of the entire season last year, the hot trophy action should begin
in earnest as the water temperatures slowly rise and the lake
begins to fall in elevation as the winter rains subside
and the dry season sets in across that area of Mexico through mid
July. The fishing continues to be excellent with many
quality bass being caught slow "rollin" large spinner
baits in the off-colored water. This could be the best post
spawn season ever at Lake Huites and we will be offering trips to
Huites Lodge through the entire month of June this
season. For more information, please call or e-mail today.

Lots of numbers being caught
this month, with great action on lipless crankbaits and flukes for
smaller bass. Huites was drawn down almost 100 feet starting
in October through December. The lake was then
stabilized at 215 meters in anticipation of the hoped for
above average El Nino winter rains and snowfall over the huge
mountainous watershed. As of today however, this has not
really developed and the lake has only slowly risen about 15 feet
over the past 45 days since being stabilized. The majority
of the bigger bass population, (which Huites has in great
abundance) still seem to be suspending in 20-30 feet of water and
once located, good numbers of bigger bass can be caught, however
these bass are constantly on the move but they will be slowly
moving through their various stages of the spawning ritual over
the next 60 days or so and the "catchin" should improve
dramatically for bigger bass. I look for Huites to
produce excellent post-spawn action this season, especially if the
lake does not get substantial run-off over the next 30 days.
The dry season for that area of Mexico will soon begin in earnest
and the irrigational requirements downstream will require vast volumes
of water to be released and Huites could be at an all time
PRIME-LOW-LEVEL-ELEVATION for the fantastic post-spawn action in
April-May and June of this season. We still have a few spots
open for this great period of post-spawn action and we offer the
absolute very best service in all Mexico at beautiful Lake Huites
Lodge.

Wrote...Hottest
baits today reported to be White Flukes or Pearl Mad Shad from
Madmanlures.com. Watermelon worms/Lizards Texas Rigged working
well in the main lake, Spinnerbaits WHITE fished in the stained to
muddy water up the Rio Fuerte catching some of the bigger fish ( 3
to 5 pounds ) Excellent results in the Canyons using 1/2
rattletraps silver/black. The biggest fish caught this week caught
using a 3/4 oz Bill Dance Fat Free Shad Cirtus Shad color(10.0
pounds). Still Lots of small fish this week with more and more of
the bigger starting to show up. 7 and 8 pound fish have been more
common than in the previous weeks. Very little topwater.

Wrote...Caught huge numbers of
1-3 lb. fish, large fish scarce. Flukes hot all the time in trees
and near bank. Worms and lizards on the flats in main lake
produced some decent fish in 5-6 lb. range. One member of our
group scored bigger fish on pig n' jig. Top water hot in spots in
evening, but almost no top in morning. Cranks in canyons and
rivers can find stacked up fish and get really wild for period of
time with fish caught every cast. Accomodations great! Thanks
again Terry, Russ, Rene and Manuel for the excellent time.

Caught 71 the first day 3-4 lbs.; day two 65; day three 62. First
day we caught most fish on Rattle Traps in chrome/blue, white,
fire tiger 1/2oz - 3/4 oz. Day two we fished worms, senkos, Zoom
trick worms pumpkin seed and power worms blue fleck and rattle
traps. Day three fished mostly worms. All fish caught in 5 to 15
feet of water. Fish were suspended. Lake is still 80 plus feet
low. Day two was unforgettable. We came around a bend in the
canyon and there were 4 other boats from Huites Lodge out in about
30 feet of water. We pulled in and began to fish. All boats were
catching fish suspended out in the middle. There was lots of
excitement here to say the least. One 10 lb was pulled out during
the next hour plus several 3-5lb fish. The staff at Huites Lodge
was incredible. The food was great and was only out classed by the
hospitality of the staff.

A beautiful 14+ pound bass was weighed and very carefully released yesterday, after a great
photo session with the lucky American Angler. This angler
was with the current group staying at Lake Huites Lodge. The
guides at Huites Lodge consistently put their customers on
the bigger bass in Lake Huites, with some of the most highly
trained and eager to please guides to be found on any lake in the
world. And, the bigger bass, with the annual spawning
rituals starting in earnest are on the move, with good numbers of
trophy bass being caught. This of course in turn is making
many an American Angler wish they had an extra day or two to spend
on the water and more than eager for a return trip to
Mexico's finest Bass fishery. The lake was finally stabilized at 215 meters several
weeks ago after being drawn down almost 100 feet since October 4th
in anticipation of a wetter than normal El Nino winter with
copious amounts of rain-snowfall across the huge Sierra Madre water shed. The
lake has actually risen about 10 feet in elevation since then and
is in excellent condition for the upcoming spawn. We still
have a couple open dates for the remainder of this season and
would be happy to check a date for you.

Hi
Folks Just returned from my second trip to Lake Huites and Lake
Huites Lodge. As was true the last time, the food,
accommodations, boats and fishing were all great. Tyler and I
fished three days and caught 60, 59 and 76 fish for a total of 195
between us for the trip. I would say that the average weight was
in the 1 to 1 2 lb class, with a respectable amount of 2's and
3's. We had one 6, three 5's (Tyler had two of these one morning)
and perhaps a couple that we felt would go 4. The best baits for
us was a "Gary Yamamoto" Senko in the standard 5"
size and/or a Zoom 6" Lizard, pitched and flipped around
standing cover, small cuts and points. With the Senko's we
couldn't see any difference at all with respect to color
(everything we tried worked well) but with the Lizards there was a
definite preference for watermelon seed, watermelon/chartreuse,
and black/chartreuse. All in all we had a super trip and can't
wait to go back. Many thanks to folks we met (lots of laughs !!)
Rene, Russ, Terry and especially our guide "Saul".
Lake Huites Lodge is truly a first class operation. Best Regards
Marshall

WOW if they call catching 50 to
100 fish a day slow, I need to move to Mexico. The early morning
topwater bite was great, need to be on the water before sunrise to
get the best benefit so you can fish for at least 30 minutes in
the dusk, this was 6:30 till 7:00 when I was there. The spinner
baits in white with large Colorado blades and a tandem of an
Indiana blade worked best for me and a 11.3 pounder was taken with
a spinnerbait during my trip. Pop R was DYNAMITE with several and
I mean several (at least 20 fish in 3 days) 7lb. fish caught on
large POP R from 4pm till 6pm until you couldn't cast anymore due
to lack of sunlight. Large spinnerbaits in dark colors worked well
in and around brush piles in the evenings as well till daylight
permitted. Sharpen your hooks and keep telling yourself in your
mind to "SET THE HOOK" it is easy to just start reeling
when you feel the fish. The fishing is great but, as always the
staff is better. The food is delicious and hot, the service is
tremendous from the van drivers to the guys who watch your
equipment at night. This is a FIRST CLASS establishment, and I
cannot wait to get back again and again. Thanks to all at Lake
Huites Lodge for another terrific time. Brittain Spencer
