The
Lodges on both Baccarac
and Huites have
re-opened after being
closed so all the
employees could take a
much needed few days off
for the Holidays, but
wouldn't you know it;
old man winter decided
to head South of the
border for a few days
about the same time we
re-opened once again and
the weather turned
unusually cool for the
Baccarac-Huites areas;
with high temperatures
only barely making it
into the upper 50's for
a couple of days.
This slowed the action
on the first day back on
the water with a few
boats reporting only 10
or so bass per boat.
But the second and third
days were "catchin" as
usual, with a couple
over 11 pounds weighed
in on the second day
with at least 75 bass
per boat. So you
see, the angling can
shut down for a short
period of time, even on
one of the hottest lakes
in the world!
We
look for the action to
continue improving with
each passing day as the
actual time of sunlight
and the beginning of
warmer weather has
already started its
yearly cycle once again
in the Northern
Hemisphere and this will
get the bass moving into
their annual pre-spawn
patterns. If you are
lucky enough to be on
the water at Baccarac
before the big females
actually disperse from
their staging areas, you
could truly be in for
some of the most
unbelievable trophy
angling on any lake in
the entire world.
All the guides on
Baccarac are well
trained in this part of
the cycle and know that
the staging of huge
groups of females ripe
with row might only
prevail for a few days,
dependant on weather
conditions before they
actually make their
annual move to the
scattered nests the
smaller males have
prepared for the actual
spawn; so
consequentially, they
are always looking for
these spots everyday
before the actual
spawning ritual takes
place. These staging
areas will always be in
a little deeper water
very close to spawning
flats with good
ditches-arroyos, old
road beds with good
ditches, backs of coves
with good definition in
and out of the area and
suitable shorelines with
deeper water always
nearby.
We
still have a few
available dates at
Baccarac. Call or
e-mail anytime and don't
forget; Huites lake
located some 75 miles to
the north of Baccarac is
also cranking out
super fishing this
season.

Recent unusually Heavy
Rainfall in the mountains
above the lake have
added twelve feet of new
water to Lake Baccarac. The
rise in water did slow the
fishing success for a few
days, but not for long!!!
Check these great reports
and give me a call, as I
have just a few open dates
available.
Smith/Marsh group
:
We
caught lots of quality
fish in the 8 to 13 lb
range. Even with the water
level rising rapidly, we
averaged 35-45 nice fish per
day on various
patterns/lures. We didn't
catch as many fish as we did
on our previous trip, but
the quality was
unbelievable. Most of the
fish we caught were over 5
lbs, and we had
ten to twelve bass between
9.8 & 13.2 lbs.
Todd Smith had three fish
over 11 lbs on a popper,
spinnerbait, and fluke. Mike
Bain had 2 fish over 10 lbs,
and Greg Marsh caught the
big fish at 13.2. All
eight guys in our group did
very well. The service and
entertainment was great, and
the improvements to the
lodge are beautiful. Thanks
for another great time south
of the border! See ya
again soon!
Dan Davidson group of 4:
"Fishing was great" with 6
over 10 pounds from my boat
and we could have caught 150
per boat if we fished up
near the cross. We fished
the same pattern everyday!
We got up, we got
in Miguel's boat. Miguel was
our guide. Miguel took us to
the fishing spots. We threw
the lure in the water. Fish
jumped on lure.
Weighed fish. Jumped up and
down. Threw fish back in the
water. Over 100 times that
day. Returned to the lodge
for cocktails and repeated
that pattern for three days.
It was great!
Whit Holsclaw
group of 4:
1 oz white jigs white
blue/black grubs...first day
very slow...second day the
best day fishing any lake in
Mexico.
16
fish between 8 and 14 pounds
..".Do I need to
say any more?"
BTW,, the fishing the third
day..up the river and caught
more fish than we could
count.
The
morning we were departing
Russ asked me " What do you
think now?
I
answered " Unreal " that’s
all I could say!
The
Lodge will be closed from
December 22nd to December
28th for the Holidays.
Hope
everyone has their best ever
Holiday Season with friends
and loved ones.

Just wanted to send an email
thanking you for the great
trip we had December 5-7
(Hess group of 6 from San
Diego). We had
numerous fish from
7lbs to 12lbs.
The majority of our fish
were caught on topwater and
spinnerbaits, although we
caught fish on every lure we
used. The service at the
lodge was second to none.
Tachi, the van driver, is an
excellent ambassador
for your company. He went
out of his way to serve us.
(P.S. he took us twice for
mouth watering tacos in Los
Mochis).
Lastly, my friend Dave
Hokstad and I fished with
Guide Ramon all three days.
I have fished numerous lakes
in Mexico and have had many
different guides. Ramon, bar
none was the best guide I
have had. He knew exactly
where to position the boat
and was awesome with the
troll motor. I can tell you
how frustrating it is to
have guides who cant use a
troll motor or know
how to position a boat. With
Ramon as the guide, our
fishing time was effortless.
We are already trying to
plan another trip to
Baccarac (Just have to tell
our spouses) |

Baccarac is Red Hot!
Harris Hatfield group:
14 fishing on
the dates Nov 28th to Dec 2
reported excellent numbers
of all sizes of bass
with 6 fish over 10 caught
on topwater. (wounded shad
super spook) They
encountered lots of wind and
rain during their trip, but
still had excellent action.
The lake actually came up
around 5 feet in elevation
during that period!
Chip Singer group:
Chip's group of 4 caught 11
Bass over 10 pounds mostly
all coming from the papachaw
area using 1oz white jigs
tipped with black-blue power
worms. Excellent numbers of
total fish with boats
catching 80 to 100 per day
reported by Chip's group
Ronnie Hemphill group:
Ronnie's group caught
6 fish over 10
pounds and all were caught
on topwater. The best
numbers of fish were caught
using 6 inch swimbaits and
during midday using 10 inch
senkos.
Alberto Theil group:
Alberto came
from Mexico City and Alberto
caught 4 bass over 10 pounds
the first day on the water.
Numbers of total fish caught
per day were between 40 and
60 each day.
Charles Anders group:
This was a giant bass trip
for Charles, as they caught
3 bass
between 12 and 15 pounds.
Guide Eddie landed a 15 +
pounder and Charles landed a
13.10 fishing the deep
structure around Russo's
inland.
Garret Hamn group:
7 anglers on the
7th of December caught 3
over 9 pounds, 5 over 10
pounds and 2 over 11 pounds.
Overall, fishing as been
very good to excellent with
some days excellent and some
days a little slower with
active bass a little harder
to find, but I have found
this to always be true on
any lake with a huge forage
base such as Baccarac. The
Bass population has an easy
time finding a meal so
consequentially they do not
have to forage as often!
Numbers have been averaging
from 40 to over a 100 bass
per boat each day with a lot
more BIG heavy fish this
season and our catch &
release program is really
paying off as the bass are
growing at incredible rates
with all the forage
available and we look for a
few bass in the
20 pound class to be hooked
this season!
I
still have a few spots open
in April-May and June; so
call me today for your
chance at the best Mexican
Adventure you've ever
experienced!

Dr
Ronald Hopkins
reporting fish
up to 11 pounds:
Good topwater
fishing with
numbers really
picking up in
the river area.
Some boats
catching over
150 today in the
river past the
cross on
topwater. Dr.
Hopkins reported
a little slower
action than last
year, but with
much larger bass
overall.
George Winstead
reports: "great
trip"
Ramon is an
excellent guide
with lots of
heavy bass on
rattletraps.
Ben Todd:
Reported good
fish caught on
Watermelon
lizards up to 9
pounds with
numbers always
over 75 per day
for the boat.
Just in from
John
Lange:
I just returned
from a six day
trip with my 10
year old son,
Brett, to
Baccarac. We had
a great trip and
fished with a
truly excellent
guide, Enrique.
He was a lot of
fun, was very
patient with
Brett, and
seemed to enjoy
having him in
the boat and
teaching him a
lot about
Mexican Bass
fishing. We
averaged 45 fish
per day and saw
many very large
fish. My biggest
was 12 and
Brett's was 7.
Enrique hooked
an 8 for him to
bring in which
was pretty cool.
Gil Wright group
of 6:
On
the 23rd they
caught 4 fish
over 10 pounds
their first
afternoon on the
water>Topwater
Action es Muy
Magnifico! The
fishing has been
all about
location at the
right time....as
it always is on
any lake in the
world. But
let me tell you
folks, if you
are at the right
location with
perfect timing
at Lake Baccarac
you are in for
the action and
"FISHING TRIP"
of a "LIFETIME!"
There is no
other lake in
the world that
remotely
compares to Lake
Baccarac when
all the pieces
fall into place.
Randy Harris
reported 6 over
10 pounds:
In
4 days on the
water with Zara
Spooks producing
all the biggest
bass!

caught 6 bass
over 10 pounds!
Bill Q reports
that overall
numbers are down
from last season
but size "WOW!and
that bigger
really is
better! " The
average size
bass is much
larger this
year. They had
fantastic
topwater action
YESTERDAY (the
7th) with 9 over
10 pounds using
a Wounded Super
Shad Spook !
Where else in
the world can
you find this
type action?
Baccarac is
simply the best
lake for large
bass in the
world and the
numbers of fish
caught per day
will increase
dramatically
as the lake is
slowly lowered
for irrigational
purposes over
the next several
months;
culminating in a
bass "catchin
orgy" in the
months of
May-June and
July!

of 9:
In Short
" Incredible "
9 fishermen and
9 fish over 10
pounds with 7, 8
and 9 pounders
very common.
Fishing from the
new 22ft Skeeter
" really
enhances the
Baccarac the
trip " The
afternoon of the
3rd day the
TOPWATER bite
was excellent!
Mike Young
Group:
We
fished mainly
deep water
looking for the
big ones; and we
found them with
a total of 42
fish over 8
pounds with 6
fish over 10
pounds and 2
fish over 12
pounds. Once in
a lifetime trip
that I will now
be making 3 more
times this
season note:
Some good
advise: listen
to your guide,
they know the
lake and what
they are doing!
Chris Heppel
group of 6:
Our group of six
fished last
Wed.-Sat.(10/31-11/3).
Four of us
caught our
lifetime biggest
largemouth--more
than once! (My
8-4, 9-4 and
10-3 were all
personal bests.)
We landed four
fish over 10
pounds,
including a
13-2, a 10-3,
and two 10-0's.
We also caught
four nine's,
about the same
number of
eight's, and
many seven
pounders. We
probably
averaged around
fifty bass per
boat per day.
(We had 100%
sunshine the
entire time we
were there and
would really
liked to have
seen how a
little cloud
cover might have
affected the
fishing.)
Our most
effective baits
were topwaters
(poppers), and
although the
topwater fishing
was best early
and late, we
were able to
catch fish on
the surface
throughout the
day. Big fish
(9+) were also
caught on fat
free shad
crankbaits
(including the
13-2), 1 oz.
spinnerbaits,
and large (6")
swim baits. The
10-3 was caught
on a Devil's
Horse (on
Halloween!)Buzzbaits
also produced,
particularly
late in the day.
Although we
fished some
plastics,
including senkos
and lizards,
these baits did
not seem to be
as effective,
particularly on
larger fish.
If I were going
back tomorrow, I
would try to be
on the water in
a prime topwater
spot at first
light with a
large popper
ready to go.
Same exact
tactic for the
last 30 minutes
of light before
dinner.
By the way, we
had
opportunities to
fish with Rene',
Sixto, Manuel,
and Pedro, and
all were
excellent. |

After fishing
20 years in
Mexico I
finally broke
the 10 pound
mark. This trip
I caught 3 over
10 pounds and
lost one that
was a real
giant. ( at
least 13 plus ).
While some other
boats had a
little topwater
action we did
not.
Caught our fish
mostly on
spinnerbaits 1
oz white made by
Dick Pro Style
Lures.
2 out of the 3
days our boat
caught 150 bass
per day and on
the third day we
only caught 45
bass for the
day. This was
the best trip
ever with tons
of heavy fish
Report from
BILL DOLL GROUP:
Another great
trip to
Baccarac!!
I have fished
this lake for a
number of years
with this trip
producing the
least quantity,
but largest
fish. Our
group of six
being
conservative
caught (50) 5 to
6#, (15) 7+#,
(25) 8+, (10)
9+, (4) 10+, (2)
11+, a 12# &
12.2# with
several anglers
in our group new
to this.
The fish were
mostly in a
neutral or
negative feeding
mood, which
required a "
SLOW DOWN"
presentation.
Swimbaits and
spinnerbaits
were crawled
along the
bottom. The best
spinnerbaits
were 3/4oz. with
a large single
blade, gold or
nickel in willow
leaf or Indiana
profile which
banged against
the wire frame.
If the topwater
bite was slow,
the wacky worm
picked up the
difference
producing
several GRANDES.
For some reason
my 'go to' bait
the lizard, did
not produce very
well, but that
could change.
The water
temperature
ranged from 78°
in the morning
to high of 82°
and is slowly
falling. I
think as the
water cools the
topwater bite
will explode
because the bait
fish do not yet
need to warm up
in the coves or
shallow
shorelines.
Fishing Mexican
lakes is a bit
different than
the US If
you are going
for the first
time and want to
catch a
'Grande', my
suggestion is to
listen to your
guide's advice.
They are very
good at what
they do.
This is where I
will continue
chasing my
'Super Grande'.
The food and
accommodations
as usual is very
good. Have
a great trip.

Food, service, guides and
accommodations excellent as
always. Our group of 5
caught on average 25 to 50
fish per day with the
majority in the 4 to 5 pound
range. Chapo Ulm
caught the majority of the
large fish with 4 over 10
pounds and several in the 6
to 8 pound range
predominantly on topwater
and 6” pearl swimbaits.
Mike Powers nailed a fat
10.9 with a pearl fluke.
Matt Brewer’s large was an 8
with several in the 5 to 6
pound range. Joe
Copeland worked on landing
the grande but had to settle
on a 7.1. Derek Krider
had several in the 5 to 6
pound range and one 7.2.
Each of us lost at least one
large fish well into the
double digit range.
After polling several groups
of anglers at the lodge,
most large fish are being
caught on 6” pearl
swimbaits, 1 oz. rattle
traps, topwater baits, 1 oz.
spinner baits and large
crankbaits. The lake
dropped about 4 feet in the
3 days we fished. We
are looking forward to
returning in March.
Topwater fishing was the
most spectacular I have ever
seen and it is only starting
to heat up.
Make sure to change out any
small treble hooks with
larger ones on your topwater
baits as the grandes will
pull free; I missed three
lunkers on topwater before
swapping out with crankbait
hooks. |

I am a serious bass
fisherman and I've been fishing in the north
west US for 20+ years. My bass fishing goal
has always been to catch the 'elusive' + 10
pounder. While on this trip, I exceeded that
goal - more then I ever imagined.
I still
can't believe it - but I caught a 10.4,
10.6, 10.14, 10.11, 11, 11.4, 11.14 and a
12.2!!! I know some people might doubt these
weights, but the photos are my proof and
they are hanging on Russ' lunker board in
the tackle shop at the lodge.
Most of the fish
were suspended in 17 to 35 feet of water. We
caught them on pearl swim baits and fat free
citrus shad cranks. As our fishing days went
on, the fish started moving to the banks and
we were able to catch some 7's and 8's and
one 10 pounder on top water super spooks.
We didn't catch a
huge # of fish. We averaged 25 to 35 fish a
day. But when you got a bite, it was a BIG
one. We had 21 seven pounders, 17 eight
pounders, 15 nine pounders, 5 fish in the 10
pound range, 4 fish over 11 pounds and the
one 12 pounder! All I can say is you have a
little piece of bass fishing heaven there!
Thanks again for
a fabulous trip! I hope to see you again
SOON!

Overall
fishing this past weekend was
slower than the week before.
Right now you need to work very
hard to catch 50 bass a day per
boat. Just not seeing the
action. The numbers of better
fish are coming from deep water
using watermelon Lizzards coming
off the long points near the
Lodge. Right now being in the
right place at the right time is
the ticket. Some topwater action
has been seen with several bass
up to 6 pounds caught on
topwater. Big Swimbaits fished
in the creek channels also
worked better than using big
spinnerbaits.
The Red
Hot action is currently taking
place at Lake Huites those

Make sure to read the
report posted below on the 16th of October.
Day one (yesterday)
of the Bill Hicks Group (24 anglers
from Hobbs New Mexico)
The over all numbers of
fish caught per boat were way down (some boats
only recording 15 fish ) ...But the size was
not. With 24 anglers on the water a total of
16 bass over 10 pounds
were recorded ranging from 10.3 to 14.1.
Russ Johnson, resident pro was also on the water
and reported 2 fish over 10 and breaking off on
one that was a giant. Russ has been fishing the
deeper structure on the south end of the Lake
while Rene has been concentrating most of his fishing up the river.
Most all
the larger Trophy fish are coming from deeper
water on swimbaits and slow rolling 1 oz
spinnerbaits on the bottom. So far the topwater
bite has not materialized like last season
during this time frame.........But hopefully,
any day now the bass will move up a little in
the water column and start blasting those big
chug-bugs! We'll be posting more reports
the first of next week. Have a great
weekend and get your reservations firmed up
today! |
